KUALA LUMPUR: With the launch of the X-series models (X50 and X70), Proton has been witnessing impressive sales growth not only in Peninsular Malaysia but also in East Malaysia. Thus, to better serve customers in the latter part of the country, the local automaker has set up a new Regional Parts Centre (RPC) in Kuching.

How is the new Proton Regional Parts Centre better than its predecessor?
Proton’s new Regional Parts Centre features three times more storage capacity than its predecessor. It can also handle the direct shipment of parts with the ability to store up to six containers.Which is the best-selling Proton car in East Malaysia?
The Proton Saga is the brand’s most popular model in East Malaysia, followed by the X50.“PROTON is pleased to announce our new RPC in Kuching is nearing completion. It is designed to cater to the needs of our dealers and their customers in East Malaysia and reduce the waiting time for parts in a region where logistics can be challenging. Once completed, we will have the ability to hold up to three months of stock and can even receive direct shipments of parts from overseas vendors,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, of PROTON.
The key highlights of Proton’s new spare parts centre are -
- It is spread over an area of 28,000 sq ft and has three times more storage capacity than its predecessor
- It will act as a parts distribution centre for after-sales in both Sabah and Sarawak
- The new facility can also handle the direct shipment of parts with the ability to store up to six containers, good enough to receive multiple orders concurrently.
- The increased capability and direct shipment will significantly reduce the processing time required to deliver orders to outlets
“We expect to see a significant improvement in waiting time for accident repairs. In addition to the three months of stocks held at the RPC, our dealers are also required to have three months maintenance parts stock. This is an example of PROTON’s efforts to continuously improve after-sales service to deliver the highest levels of customer satisfaction. We understand many may be wary, but I would like to reassure both current and future owners, parts are available for your new Proton”, added Roslan Abdullah.
As a quick glance at the sales numbers, the automaker managed to grab a hike of 120% in sales from 2018 to 2021 in the region. It has delivered 115,366 cars so far this year (till October) with an increase of 33.6% over the first ten months of the last year. The company expects a further 20% growth in year-on-year sales with healthy booking numbers acquired in 2022.
“For East Malaysian car buyers, the Proton Saga remains as our most popular model, followed by the Proton X50. Last year, we sold 8,692 units of Proton Saga and 2,934 units of Proton X50, and based on the current booking trend, we forecast sales to exceed 10,000 and 4,200 units respectively,” said Roslan Abdullah.
