However, the stunning SUV from Proton is loaded with features, thus giving us ample opportunities to talk about it. Now for those of you, who were all busy and caught up in there lives, we would recommend to read our previous article about the Proton X70 and get a quick heads up.
However, seeing Proton’s tight preview schedule for the X70, it seems hard to imagine that anyone in Malaysia can overlook its presence. Even the Sultan of Jordan has shared a Facebook post dedicated to his encounter with the X70. Moving on, earlier we talked about the impressive safety features of the Proton X70. And today its time to compare the variants.
Now, before going ahead, we’ll like to share a few things about the X70 -
First, it is based on the Chinese automobile company Geely’s SUV called Boyue and therefore the two shares a lot of similarities
Second, it is Proton's first step into the sports utility world, and so it holds a special position in the company's timeline
Third, Proton might go international with the X70; a speculation emerged from the new alpha-numeric naming scheme adopted by the company
Fourth, it is by far Proton’s most advanced car, in the sense of features on offer
Fifth, the Proton X70 would be launched somewhere in November 2018, so if you have plans of buying a car hold on until this one’s out for sale
Sixth, if after reading this or any other of our stories on X70, you find this car intimidating, then you can pre-book it
Time for variant comparison. It is essential to know about all of them, as at the time of pre-booking, a prospective buyer needs to specify the X70 variant. Proton will be launching the X70 with four trim options. With the Standard 2WD being the base, followed by Executive 2WD, Executive AWD, and lastly the range-topping Premium 2WD.
Starting with base specifications, i.e., one that’ll be common across the X70 lineup -
- A 1.8-litre TGDi petrol mill will energize all the trims. It will produce a maximum power of 183 PS along with a peak torque of 285 Nm. This mill offers both a powerful and efficient drive
- The X70 is provided with one transmission option, a 6-speed automatic with manual shift mode
- The exterior without a doubt looks stunning, highlighting the design attributes of a modern-day car. It has got the right cuts and curves at all the correct places
- Decorating the outer profile are standard offerings like - halogen headlamps and 17-inch alloy wheels
- The cabin is equally appealing with amenities like an 8-inch touchscreen head unit and fabric seat
- Easing the parking process is a rear view camera
- Available color options - Snow White and Armour Silver
While all the features mentioned above are standard, here are a few additions to the Executive 2WD and variants following it -
- All the trims expect the base stand on 18-inch alloy wheels that not only look stylish but are capable of withstanding the harshest of road conditions
- Replacing the halogen unit from earlier are the LED headlamps with daytime running lights
- The cabin gets leatherette seats with the fabric being limited to the standard offering
- Driver’s seat is powered for easy adjustments, and a 360-degree camera is also introduced providing both audio and visual assistance during parking
- Available color options - Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, and Cinnamon Brown
Moving on to the Executive AWD -
- Apart from the specs mentioned above, this comes with an additional Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The information of which is displayed on the colored MID panel via infographic. It displays tyre pressure and temperature
- Available color options - Snow White and Jet Grey
Coming to the range-topping Premium 2WD, it's the one stuffed with all the luxury and utility features. Here are a few features that are exclusive to this trim -
- An Advanced Driver Assistance System which probably is a mix of features like - Electronic Stability Program, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Front Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System, and Intelligent High Beam Control
- The seats here are wrapped in Nappa leather which is both soft and supple and comes armed with power adjustment
- Creating a sense of space and luxury is the panoramic sunroof that seems to extend all the way up to the second row
- Available color options - Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Flame Red, and Cinnamon Brown
So, which variant do you feel best suits your need? We’ll suggest considering you commute style (urban or off-road), budget, and tech-friendliness. Go for the base variant, if power is all that matters but, for full-blown attention, nothing better than the Premium 2WD option. However, between the Executive 2WD and Executive AWD, the feature list is mostly standard, and the pick will mostly depend on where you’ll drive the X70.
