Proton update: 2025 X70 receives Apple CarPlay via OTA; PROTON-Vaganza campaign introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, Proton has paid heed to its users' proposition of getting the X70 equipped with Apple CarPlay. Yes, the national automaker has finally announced the availability of the connectivity for the owners of the 2025 X70. Thus, making sure Proton maintains its position as the leading premium SUV brand in the country.

Since its initial launch in 2018, the Proton X70 has rapidly gained popularity, selling over 100,000 units. In September 2024 alone, Proton sold 1,466 units of the X70, confirming its status as Malaysia’s best-selling C-segment SUV. With the introduction of Apple CarPlay, this model is now even more appealing, especially to tech-savvy drivers who can seamlessly integrate their iPhones with the SUV’s infotainment system.

Limited to the latest version of the X70 that was launched recently on 15th August, the model received this cutting-edge update via Over The Air (OTA) tech. Starting on 16 October 2024, Proton began rolling out the update to its X70 owners in Malaysia. Thus solidifying Proton’s commitment to provide top-tier technology and an enhanced user experience in the competitive SUV market.

How to go about Apple CarPlay OTA update in 2025 X70?

Owners of the 2025 Proton X70 can easily download and install the update by following the simple on-screen instructions in their vehicle. The installation process ensures uninterrupted use of the vehicle’s functions while bringing improved system performance and bug fixes along with the CarPlay feature. Once installed, users can pair their iPhones via USB or Bluetooth to access CarPlay, offering a smoother, safer driving experience with hands-free navigation, calls, and media.

Here is a step-by-step guide to installing Apple CarPlay -

Step 1: Download the update

• Notification: Users will receive an OTA (Over-The-Air) update notification on their car when the Apple CarPlay software becomes available.
• Keep the engine running: The software update download will begin automatically, however, make sure the engine is running until the download is complete.

Step 2: Install the update

• Installation prompt: After the download is complete, users can begin installation whenever convenient.
• Keep the engine running: During installation, make sure the engine remains on to avoid interruptions. The system will notify you once the update is successfully installed.

Step 3: Verify the update

• Check the software version: A successful software update can be verified by going to the infotainment system settings and navigating to [System Information> > [About IHU>. The version you should see is SW3RBA10925H1141, confirming that Apple CarPlay has been installed.

Step 4: Pair iPhone

• USB or Bluetooth: Connect your iPhone via a USB cable or wirelessly through Bluetooth.
• Activate CarPay: Once paired, launch Apple CarPlay by tapping the CarPlay icon on the infotainment screen.

PROTON-Vaganza campaign

In conjunction with the above update, Proton’s year-end PROTON-Vaganza campaign is offering a range of promotions from 1 October to 31 December 2024. Including -
