Perodua teases 2019 Axia via video, to debut soon

KUALA LUMPUR: During the Big Stage 2019 Concert, Perodua surprised the audience with 2019 Axia teaser video. The said video revealed a few aspects of the car, though partially but it was sure a treat to the eyes, especially for those waiting for the revised hatchback for long.

In the video, Perodua quickly teased the upcoming Axia, wherein we got to see the SUV-inspired trim, called Style through partial clips. The car in the teaser showcased SUV-like black plastic cladding around the lower body and fenders. Also, the lower front and rear bumper were painted in silver and mimic the skid plates.

The 2019 Axia Style gets a unique dotted grille, and the front end is covered in black carbon textured stickers. The car in the video was sprayed in model exclusive paint, i.e., orange. Also, part of the exterior is decorative black roof rails, 15-inch alloy wheels, and thicker tyres. The Style variant is said to be 15 mm taller than the ongoing Axia model.

The Axia Style interior features exclusive denim fabric upholstery with fish scale pattern and contrasting stitching. Perodua Malaysia is hoping the Style trim to give Axia sales a hike, contributing 20 to 25 percent in the total model trade.

Perodua first introduced the Aixa hatch in 2014, and it received a midlife facelift in 2017. In the current Perodua lineup, Axia models display two faces - normal and sportier. However, with 2019 update, all the trims will share a standard look, with the trim name indicating the variations in each.

The all-new Axia will not be offered in four but six trim levels - E, G, SE, Advance, GXtra, and Style. The 2019 Axia engine specs remain the same, and the hatch continues to derive power from a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder VVT-i unit that churns 67 hp and 91 Nm. The powerplant can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

2019 Axia specs sheet reveals that GXtra and up trims will benefit from the Vehicle Stability Control system. The Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0, however; remain exclusive to the range-topping Style model.
