Perodua revises 2023 targets; aiming for 338k production and 325k sales

KUALA LUMPUR: At the beginning of the year, Perodua set its goal of producing 330,000 units and delivering 314,000 vehicles for the twelve-month period. The underlying factors for these targets were the sales momentum the brand received from the sales tax exemption delivery extension and the high demand for the upgraded Perodua Axia hatchback. Well, the automaker has now announced the revised production and sales targets for 2023.

Perodua has adjusted the production goal to 338,000 units, leading to a sales volume target of 325,000 vehicles by the end of 2023. These changes are supported by improved parts supply from auto vendors and strong demand for Perodua cars.

“This month saw our highest ever production and sales performances of 35,111 units made and 33,836 units registered in a single month,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.  As for reference, the company produced 22,974 units in October last year and sold 24,849 units in the same month.

According to him, the increase in production was achieved with available resources within the current automotive ecosystem, which hints at the brand’s growth potential for both the demand and supply side of the industry. 

“While some issues such as the long-term availability of semiconductor chips still persist, we are able to secure enough so that our fourth quarter performance would be the best in our history.,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.

Perodua YTD production and sales

The automaker produced 280,452 units in the first ten months of 2023, marking a 22% increase from the 229,811 units manufactured in the same period last year. As for sales, it sold a total of 267,063 units between January and October 2023, representing a growth of 20.2% compared to the 222,203 units delivered in the same period in 2022.

“If this momentum continues, then the automotive industry might be able to sustain such growth in 2024, which would further help boost the consumer sentiment despite the economic uncertainties next year,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.

“For now, we are focusing on maximising our potential in both production and sales so that our customers will receive their Perodua vehicles faster,” he added.
