Perodua Myvi 2019: Price, engine, and variants explained

The Myvi is one of Perodua Malaysia best selling models. It has been around for a few years now, and in this period, it has gained tremendous popularity and trust of the people. This 5-door B-segment hatchback is giving a good fight to the other cars in the segment. And its latest model will continue to do so.

The 2019 Myvi price starts at RM 42,790 for the base variant and scales all the way up to RM 54,090 for the range-topping 1.5L AV AT model.

Perodua Myvi 2019 engine

When it comes to the engine, there are two options available with the Myvi. There is a 1.3-litre 1NR-VE, 4-cylinder, DOHC with Dual VVT-i engine which has been tuned to churn out a max power of 94 hp at 6000 rpm and121 Nm of peak torque that kicks in at 4000 rpm. This engine comes with both manual and automatic transmission.

The other engine that you would find in the 2019 Myvi specs sheet is a more powerful 1.5-litre 2NR-VE engine that produces 106 hp at 6000 revs and generates a peak torque of 136 Nm at 4200 revs. You only get an automatic transmission with this engine option.

Both the engines come under the EEV category which means that they tend to produce low noise and vibration levels, thereby giving a smooth and quiet driving experience. Also, the fuel efficiency of both units is exceptional. Perodua claims that the 1.3-litre engine could give around 21.1 kmpl whereas the 1.5-litre unit falls a bit short at 20.1 kmpl.

The Myvi is available in a total of 5 variants - 1.3L G MT, 1.3L G AT, 1.3L X AT, 1.5L H AT, and 1.5L AV AT. All the variants are available in 6 different colors options - Glittering Silver, Ivory White, Lava Red, Peppermint Green, Granite Grey, and Mystical Purple.

In terms of dimensions, all the variants are the same. The Myvi measures 3895 mm in length, 1735 mm in width, and is 1515 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2500 mm. The 3 variants that are powered by the 1.3-litre engine come with 14-inch alloy wheels whereas the other two 1.5-litre models have 15-inch wheels.

Perodua’s Eco Idle system is one of the reasons why both its 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engines give optimum performance. However, this feature doesn’t come as standard across the board. Only the top 3 variants - 1.3L X AT, 1.5L H AT, and 1.5L AV AT - are blessed with this feature.

Exterior

Perodua has mostly kept the aesthetics the same. We have a set of sleek and sharp headlights with a perfect design. These are LED reflector units which are much brighter than the halogens, and also consume less energy. The headlamps suit the design of the front grille which is painted in case of the bottom two models and is finished in chrome in the high-end variants.

The bumper has got the same sporty design but doesn’t come with chrome garnish for the fog lamps in a couple of variants. All the variants of the 2019 Perodua Myvi get LED rear combination tail lamps whereas only the 1.5L models come with the rear spoiler. They also feature dual tone rear bumper and front and side skirting for added sportiness.

Interior

Just like with the exterior features, most of the premium interior features are mostly available for the 1.3L X AT and above models. For example, the leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, chrome rings around the instrument console dials, chrome inner door handles, and so on. The top-end model gets a touchscreen multimedia system that supports Bluetooth connectivity, navigation & 'Smart Link' (for Android), and also a reverse camera.

Safety features

The 2019 Myvi comes with some good safety features like ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Traction Control (TRC). All of these features come as standard. Also, there are at least 4 (front & side) airbags in every model. The top-end variant has 6 of them (curtain included). It also has the Hill-start Assist (HSA) which might come in handy in certain situations.
