Perodua Axia - Key highlights
Perodua Axia is one of the most affordable cars that you can buy in Malaysia right now. This is one of the reasons why its popularity isn’t just limited to our country. We can get an idea of that by the fact that Perodua recently launched the Axia in Sri Lanka.
In Malaysia, the 2019 Perodua Axia was made available earlier this year with some new features without altering the price too much. Perodua Axia price starts at RM 24,090 and it is currently available in a total of 6 variants. All the variants are powered by the same 1.0-litre petrol engine. Perodua is also offering a new Style variant of the Axia for people who like their car to stand out of the crowd.
Following are the key highlights of the new Axia:
Stylish headlamps
We find the headlamps of the 2019 Perodua Axia to be quite stylish. They are big enough to attract attention but not too big to spoil the car’s overall front look. They also have a nice shape that goes well with the other elements like the front grille and sporty front bumper.
Retractable side mirrors with turn signals
The outside rearview mirrors or the side mirrors are retractable and come with integrated turn signals. Finding them in an entry-level hatchback is quite rare. So kudos to Perodua for that.
Side skirting
To give the Axia a sporty side view, Perodua has added side skirting. It isn’t too much and definitely ups the style quotient of the car. Don’t you think so?
Sporty alloy wheels
Another highlight of the Perodua Axia that adds to its side view is its alloy wheels. They are quite sporty and are available in two sizes - 14-in and 15-in - depending on the variant you pick.
Rear spoiler
To keep the sportiness seamless all around the car, there’s even a rear roof-mounted spoiler with a high-mount stop lamp. It does keep things exciting at the rear.
Large boot space
2019 Perodua Axia specs sheet mentions a 260-litre boot capacity. It might not sound much but considering that the Axia is a small A-segment hatchback, it is quite commendable. Plus, you can also fold the seats to increase the luggage carrying capacity.
Generous cabin space
The Axia is 3,650 mm long, 1,625 mm wide and 1,525 mm tall and it still provides a generous amount of cabin space. It is even possible to accommodate 5 people. Thanks to the spacious legroom at the back, rear passengers are at good comfort. For the front occupants, bucket seats are available for added support and comfort.
Stylish instrument console
We like how Perodua has designed the instrument console of the Axia. It seems kind of balanced; not too sporty, not too bland. There’s a big speedometer in the middle along with all the tell-tale lights. On the left, there’s a cool tachometer and on the right, we have a small digital display that shows fuel level, clock, and much more.
Fuel efficient engine
As we mentioned before, there’s only a single engine option available with all the 6 Perodua Axia variants. It is a 1.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 67 bhp of max power at 6000 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. For the transmission, only the base 1.0 E variant comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. The rest of the models are equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Perodua has tuned them such that they work together to give the best fuel economy possible. Perodua claims fuel consumption of 22.5 kmpl for the MT and 21.6 kmpl for the AT.
Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0
One of the key highlights of the latest Axia has to be its Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0 safety feature. By adding this, Perodua made the Axia one of the safest cars in the segment. Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0 consists of Pre-Collision Warning, Front Departure Alert along with Pedal Misoperation Control, and pedestrian detection. Although available only with the top-end Advance variant, it’s good to know that Perodua is making efforts to improve its products.
Vehicle Stability Control
This time, Perodua has taken things very seriously in terms of safety. The 2019 Axia not only gets the new Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A) 2.0 but also Vehicle Stability Control along with Traction Control. Providing these safety features in a car of this segment is really a commendable job.
The latest Axia is surely a step up from its predecessor. And the best thing is, it continues to provide all the new bells and whistles at an affordable price: RM 24,090 - RM 43,190.
