Over a million Mercedes-Benz sold in the first half of 2021
KUALA LUMPUR: In the first half of 2021, Mercedes-Benz got a pretty amazing response sales-wise. Figuratively speaking, the German automaker sold 1,182,724 passenger cars worldwide, translating to a 25.1% hike over the previous year figure. In addition, Mercedes-Benz has even set a new record in a few markets, one of which is China.
Coming to the 1,182,724 passenger cars, it included 121,500 units of plug-in-hybrid and all-electric models. This figure is three times more than the number of PHEVs sold in the first half of 2020. Also, it was during Q2 2021, that Mercedes saw a major rise in its sales, with over half a million units sold. For the sake of comparison, the automaker saw a 27% rise in sales in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the same period the previous year.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz even claimed the sales figure could have been if the brand didn’t face the semiconductor component shortage. Although the sales figures are increasing due to high global demand, the component shortage is expected to affect the sales figure for the second half of 2021.
"Great customer demand for our Mercedes-Benz models propelled our double-digit growth in the first half of 2021. Order intake levels remain high supported by the popularity of the new S-Class, the xEVs and the sales launch of the new C-Class in many markets," said Britta Seeger, Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG Member of the Board of Management.
On EQA, EQC, and EQV sales, Seeger said, "The positive feedback we received about the EQS following its world premiere and our strong EV sales momentum is proof that Mercedes-EQ is just at the beginning of its electric success story."
