New Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Variants, features, price & more

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia now has the facelifted Tiguan Allspace in the local market after its reveal last year.

The new VW seven-seater SUV like before is offered in two variants, the 1.4 TSI Elegance and the 2.0 TSI R-Line 4Motion. And here we’ll be discussing the two in detail, looking into what all is on offer and finally getting to know which is a better fit for urban city drivers. Starting with the price and from there moving forward with features.

The base variant is powered by a smaller 1.4-litre turbo mill, while the R-Line model gets a bigger 2.0-litre TSI powertrain. Also, one gets a different transmission and drivetrain with each, as can be seen in the table.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Styling

The latest-gen Tiguan Allsapce features a refreshed exterior which in a way strengthens its position in the segment. The car looks sportier and more refined with sharp new looks, proving big family cars apart from being practical can be stylish too.

At the front, the SUV now features a bold radiator grille set in between sleek headlights with a signature LED illuminating strip in between. The two variants look slightly different from one another, thanks to the R-Line styling suite that adorns the range-topping model.

The Elegance 1.4TSI features full LED headlights with cornering function and all-weather light, DLRs, LED illuminated strip between headlights at the front. On the sides, it gets 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels, silver anodised roof rails, and silver ORVM housing. The rear gets red striking LED tail lights with dynamic factor.

The Tiguan Allspace R-Line 4MOTION exhibits a great sense of style with sporty R-Line trim. Helping it stand out from the crowd is the R-Line front & rear bumper, black R-Line rear spoiler, and 19-inch Valencia alloy wheels. Rest all remains the same.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Interior

On the inside, the new Tiguan Allspace gets several new features, common in both trims. Included in the list is - a new three-spoke steering wheel, triple-zone climate control switchgear, a 9.2-inch Discover Pro system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and an updated 11.7-inch digital instrument display. It also gets ambient lights with 30 hues, an illuminated vanity mirror, illuminated front door scuff plates, two front & two rear LED reading lights, 12-V outlets at front and rear, and 2 front & 1 rear USB-C port.

On the comfort front, the Allspace benefits from upgraded seats wrapped in black Vienna leather with standard 12-way power-adjustable front seats with memory and heating and ventilation features. The rear folding tables have been ditched in favor of two small pockets on the back of the front seats.

Also, part of the standard specs list is - electromechanical parking brake with Auto Hold function, luggage compartment cover & floor with storage compartment, overhead storage compartments, luggage compartment light removable and usable as a flashlight, storage compartment with cover on the dashboard, and keyless vehicle entry and engine start including start/ stop button centre console.

How is the R-Line variant different from Elegance? Well, aside from the usual R-Line bits like flat-bottom steering, and fake carbon fibre trim, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line gets a few additional features. Like - new 10-speaker, 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, a start-stop system with regenerative braking, progressive steering, Dynamic Chassis Control, Hill Descent Control, and easy open & close sensor controlled electric tailgate.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Safety

Volkswagen has fitted the new Tiguan Allspace with a strong safety suite that allows the owners to enjoy peace of mind on the road ahead. The SUV comes equipped with 6 airbags (2 front, 2 front side, & 2 curtain), lane assist, driver alert system, cruise control system & speed limiter, anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring protection, rear view camera with front & rear parking sensor, driver & front passenger safety-optimized head restraints, ISOFIX child seats for front & rear seats, tyre pressure load indicator, warning lamp for washer fluid level, and front & rear seat belt warning signal & light. Over and above, the R-Line only gets one driver knee airbag, rest all remains the same.

Conclusion

 

Be it styling, comfort, convenience, or safety, the two Tiguan Allspace variants are more or less the same with only a few changes here and there. The major difference comes on the powertrain and pricing (the R-Line is almost RM 45k dearer) front, making it the main deciding factor.
