Exterior highlights
The most noticeable upgrade on the new Tiguan Allspace is on the exterior, where both the Tiguan Allspace Elegance and Tiguan Allspace R-Line now feature a redesigned grille, new bumper design, as well as redesigned headlamps.
Speaking of headlamps, both variants get full LED lights which provide a wider light distribution than before.
Even the high beam is twice as bright compared to the outgoing model. Another highlight is the LED tail lights which come with dynamic indicators.
Aesthetics aside, the headlamps also make things safer for the driver thanks to the integrated all-weather light system and dynamic cornering light for improved visibility.
The tail light cluster on the other hand, comes with a cool lighting signature which puts on a cool “click clack” effect when the brake is applied.
Similar to the new Golf which was launched recently, the new Tiguan Allspace also comes with the signature LED illuminated light strip that runs across the grille, on the ‘Tiguan’ lettering on the rear, as well as on the new Volkswagen emblem.
The wheel design is also new on both variants, with the Tiguan Allspace R-Line rocking 19-inch alloys while the Tiguan Allspace Elegance sitting on 18-inch wheels.
While highlights on the Elegance variant’s exterior includes chrome elements, an ‘Allspace’ specific side trim and standard silver-painted side mirrors, the R-Line variant comes with ‘R-Line’ trims and sportier looking bumpers.
Interior highlights
Inside, both variants come with seats that are all clad in what Volkswagen calls “Vienna leather”, complemented by the addition of active climate seats for the driver and front passenger – both of which feature 12-way electrical adjustment.
These ventilated active climate seats actually provide cooling or heating options at the touch of a button depending on whether you want the seats to cool you down or to warm you up.
Seats aside, new features include the latest generation 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system which sits at the heart of the cockpit, and a three-zone air conditioning system.
The infotainment system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control, an in-built navigation system, Bluetooth, MP3, and everything in between.
The multifunction sports steering wheel is also new, operating through haptic-touch control for seamless connectivity.
The buttons, knobs, and levers on the air conditioning control panel have also been upgraded to be more ergonomic and convenient.
A bonus feature that is found only in the R-Line 4MOTION is the premium Harman Kardon 480-watt sound system which includes 10 speakers, providing crystal-clear treble and deep, rich bass, as well as four audio profiles and a surround mode.
Also exclusive to the R-Line variant are the ‘R-Line’ emblems on the seats, steering wheel and across the interior, as well as the Carbon Grey bits that make it look sportier than the Elegance version.
Like the new Golf, the new Tiguan Allspace’s gear shifter is also new, where the gear positions are shown on the interface with illumination to highlight which gear is engaged.
Providing the driver with all the necessary information is a new and improved 11.7-inch Digital Cockpit which includes a high-resolution display colour thin-film transistor (TFT) similar to a premium smartphone.
Further complementing the list of interior features is the 30-colour ambient lighting system which comprises light strips extending across the doors.
Safety
Where safety is concerned, standard features include six airbags in the Elegance and seven for the R-Line, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA), Multi-collision brakes, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB).
Lane Assist and Driver Alert systems are also standard for both models, but the hill-descent control feature is only available in the R-Line variant.
How the new Lane Assist system works is that it will detect if the vehicle swerves into another lane without indication, and gently steer the SUV back to where it is supposed to be.
The system recognises road edges, detects kerbs, grass verges, and lane markings, and warns the driver if he or she doesn’t respond promptly.
Convenience
Also new are the ‘Easy Open’ and ‘Easy Close’ feature for the boot which provides hands-free opening and delayed closing of the boot for added convenience.
In addition, the versatile seat configurations, the performance, and the refinement have also played a big part in making it popular around the world among families and those who live an active lifestyle.
Offered with three years free maintenance, five years unlimited mileage warranty, and five years roadside assistance, the new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace comes in five colours options, which are Atlantic Blue, Oryx White, Deep Black, Platinum Grey, and Pyrite Silver.
Volkswagen’s best-seller
First unveiled in 2017, the Tiguan Allspace which is essentially the seven-seater long wheelbase version of the Tiguan SUV, has become Volkswagen’s best-selling model in Malaysia and one of the brand’s most successful vehicles worldwide.
In case you’re wondering how many units were sold since its premiere, around 1.5 million units were sold worldwide, with the model accounting for 55% of all Tiguan production.
According to Volkswagen, the feature that made it a hit among buyers is the class-leading boot space of up to 1,775 litres.
No more five-seater Tiguan
Speaking at the launch, Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia’s managing director Erik Winter also stated that the regular five-seater Volkswagen Tiguan which was discontinued in Malaysia back in 2020 will remain discontinued and that there will not be a new version.
He said that the demand from buyers is actually much higher for the Tiguan Allspace than the five-seater Tiguan which wasn’t doing as well as the seven-seater, hence why the focus will remain on the Tiguan Allspace we’re looking at here.
