New Toyota GR Yaris selling out quickly in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Almost after a year of its debut at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, the GR Yaris hit the Malaysian market last month. And, just like in other countries, the hot hatch impressed the local auto-enthusiasts with its remarkable handling and power. Through an official press release, UMW Toyota Motors revealed the fact that the GR Yaris has received an overwhelming response in the country.
Out of the global limited production of 25,000 units, less than 200 units bearing a special plate for exclusivity have been allocated for the Malaysian market. And according to Toyota, these units have shot out of the showrooms with unprecedented speed, showing its undeniable desirability.
“The enthusiastic fans were eagerly awaiting the launch of the model and wasted no time booking one right after we launched the car on December 17, 2020. And now, just over a month since its launch, we have been receiving such an overwhelming response. We thank customers for their enthusiastic support,” said Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.
But despite the GR Yaris units selling out so fast, the company is inviting the interested buyers to register their interest with the Toyota GR Garage dealers nationwide. The GR Garage is a dedicated sales channel for GR (GAZOO Racing) models like the GR Supra, GR Yaris, and Vios GR-Sport as well as performance items. However, the customers can also register their interest on the company’s website.

The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission sending power to all four wheels.
The four-wheel-drive system features three drive modes - Normal, Sport, and Track. In Normal mode, it sends 60% power to the front and 40% to the rear wheels, in the Sport mode, a 30:70 power split adds more rear-drive handling characteristics to the hatchback, while in the last Track mode, the car gets a 50:50 split for maximum performance.
In terms of safety, the GR Yaris is fitted with the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, which includes autonomous emergency braking, daytime cyclist detection, and nighttime pedestrian detection, lane centering assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beam, and adaptive cruise control.
