New Range Rover Velar launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Land Rover Malaysia finally brought the new Velar for the luxury and comfort-oriented buyers. This car made its global debut last year in March and is positioned between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport.

Land Rover new SUV is available to the countrymen in two variants - the Range Rover Velar available from RM529,800 and the Velar R-Dynamic that commands a higher tag of RM588,000. Included in the package are five-year free service, five-year warranty, and three years roadside assistance.

Earlier this year at the 2018 World Car Design, the Range Rover Velar won World Car Design of the Year. This car features a revolutionary design philosophy. Extra care is given to the aerodynamics evident from features like striking proportions, integrated rear spoiler, and flush door handles. While the foil stamped grille gives the front profile an awe-striking presence, the distinctive design clues from front fenders to rear bumper gives it a great on-road presence.

On the inside, the Range Rover Velar features a clean, calm, and highly sophisticated look. However, once the engine ignites, and the high-tech features start the Velar surprises the driver and passenger. Sitting right next to the steering wheel is one of the two 10-inch HD touchscreens tuned with Touch Pro Duo system. It takes care of essential functions like - entertainment, connectivity, around-view camera, rear parking sensors, and navigation. Just below is the second screen with reinforced temperature displaying dials. From here, the driver can handle various vehicle settings including Terrain Command and climate control system.

That is not all the screens the Range Rover Velar has on offer. The driver’s arena gets a 12.3-inch instrument binnacle, called Interactive Driver Display. The leather steering wheel comes with hidden until-lit switches that help the driver control various functions.

The Velar and Velar R-Dynamic variants are powered by an Ingenium 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with twin-scroll turbocharger and Continuously Variable Valve Lift. This P250 powertrain generates a maximum output of 250 PS at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 365 Nm at 1,200 to 4,500 rpm. Paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox the power reaches to all four wheels.

With the given under hood configuration, the new Range Rover Velar can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and display a top speed of 217 kmph. These figures take a better shape under the P380 mill that can be found under the higher-spec Velar R-Dynamic. The 380 PS generating 3.0-litre supercharged V6 enables the SUV to reach the 100 kmph mark in 5.7 seconds and offers a higher top speed of 250 kmph.
