The 43rd Bangkok International Motor Show has finally opened its doors to the members of the press and car enthusiasts, and one of the first announcements came from none other than Mitsubishi.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the updates on the new Xpander?
The new Mitsubishi features a redesigned exterior, upgraded interior, more space, as well as a new CVT gearbox among othersThe company has revealed not one or two, but three new interesting models this time around in the forms of the new and refreshed Mitsubishi Xpander crossover MPV, and two new Ralliart special edition models.
The Ralliart models are actually the Mitsubishi Triton Ralliart (Double-Cab) and the Mitsubishi Mirage Ralliart.
New Mitsubishi Xpander
Unveiled in Indonesia in November 2021, Thailand is the second country in the ASEAN region to welcome the new and updated Mitsubishi Xpander which now features a fresh design, a redesigned interior, some mechanical upgrades, and improved safety.
Although the new Xpander looks very similar to the outgoing model, the front and rear overhang are now longer by 75 mm and 45 mm respectively.
The MPV is also taller by 20 mm compared to its predecessor, which translates to a higher ground clearance of up to 225 mm, further improving the Xpander’s water wading abilities.
In terms of design, the new Mitsubishi Xpander’s exterior was tweaked to look more like an SUV and less like an MPV, thanks to the new Dynamic Shield front fascia that comprises a horizontal bumper, and a newly adopted three-dimensional skid plate.
Also new are the T-shaped headlights which are part of the new generation headlight unit shape. At the rear, the LED rear combination lights also feature a T-shaped design and come with homogeneous lighting. Besides that, the wheel design is also new for the upgraded version.
As for the interior, the new Xpander features a redesigned dashboard, a new steering wheel, new soft pads, new synthetic leather upholstery, and real stitching for the armrest and door trims.
Also new is the air cond control panel with liquid crystal display and a high contrast meter display with new graphic design. The size of the centre console has also increased significantly.
There is only one technical update which is a new “high-efficiency” CVT gearbox which makes the Xpander more fuel efficient yet smoother and punchier to drive than the outgoing model.
Triton Ralliart
In addition to the new Xpander, Mitsubishi also unveiled a unique version of the Triton called the Triton Ralliart.
The double-cab variant which is based on the low-riding version of the Triton comes with a range of Ralliart visual enhancements such as the side decals, mud flaps, and bed liner with the Ralliart logo.
In order to further emphasize the low-profile of the Triton, the Ralliart version is fitted with a special front airdam, side airdams, and also a rear airdam.
Inside, the Triton Ralliart gets goodies like Ralliart floor mats as well as red-accent overlocks.
Last but not least, the Triton Ralliart comes in two exterior colour options, namely Solid White body with a Black roof, and Jet Black Mica where the front grille, alloy wheels, door mirrors, door handles, and rear gate handle are all blacked out.
Mirage Ralliart
The final member of Mitsubishi’s trio of the day is none other than the Mirage Ralliart which was developed to pay tribute to the rally-winning Mirage from the 1990s.
Although there is no technical upgrade of any sort, the Mirage Ralliart definitely looks the part, thanks to Ralliart side decals, mud flaps, and black over fenders with carbon grain.
The theme also continues inside the car, with special floor mats with Ralliart emblems, as well as the two-tone red and black seats.
Available in White Diamond or Red Metallic colour options, the Mitsubishi Mirage Ralliart also features a black roof, black front grille, black alloy wheels, black door mirrors and a black rear spoiler.
