Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is now available in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: Following the launch in Indonesia and the Philippines, Mitsubishi introduced the Outlander plug-in hybrid in the Thai market during the ongoing 37th Thailand International Motor Expo 2020. The PHEV is an embodiment of the automaker’s expertise in electrification, SUV, and all-wheel control technologies. It is known to be the world’s best-selling PHEV and has been Europe’s top-selling PHEV constantly for five years (2015-2019).
"The introduction of the Outlander PHEV in Thailand aligns with our initiative to promote an electrified future. It marks a key milestone for electromobility to the customers in Thailand who are seeking an environmentally-friendly solution,” said Takao Kato, chief executive officer of MMC.
Under the hood, it carries a 2.4-litre four-cylinder DOHC MIVEC petrol engine paired with a chargeable 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, generating 128 PS of maximum power and 199 Nm of peak torque. On each axle, there is an electric motor; the front one delivers 82 PS and 137 Nm while the rear unit churns out 95 PS and 195 Nm. The mechanical setup is married to a CVT gearbox and gets an all-wheel-drive system as standard. The all-electric range of the SUV is rated at 55 km.
The SUV’s cabin is engineered to accommodate five passengers comfortably with versatile seat arrangements providing space for different cargo requirements. In terms of standard equipment, it is loaded with a bunch of features inside out. These include:
- LED headlamps with daytime running lights
- 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels
- Powered tailgate
- 8-inch touch screen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay support, and Android Auto compatibility
- Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
- Electronic gear lever
- Powered front seats
- Leather upholstery
As for safety, the Outlander PHEV comes with several advanced safety systems, including an ultrasonic mis-acceleration mitigation system, rear cross-traffic alert system, blind-spot warning, lane change assist, automatic high beam, forward collision mitigation system, and adaptive cruise control system.
Available in two variants - GT and GT Premium, the Outlander PHEV price in Thailand starts at 1,640,000 baht (RM 221,000). Mitsubishi has not yet made any announcement regarding the PHEV’s launch in Malaysia.
