Both vehicles are imported from Thailand.
MG5 GT: A Stylish Fastback Sedan
Among the two models, the MG5 is particularly eye-catching. With an estimated pricing of RM100,000, this C-segment sedan is sleek and sporty, measuring 4,675 mm in length and 1,842 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. To put that into context, that’s pretty much C-segment size, making it slightly larger than the Proton S70, which we think will be its main rival price wise.
The MG5 is equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that delivers 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, just like the models seen in Thailand. This engine is paired with a CVT that simulates eight speeds. 0-100km/h is rated at 11.5 seconds.
Key features include 17-inch Tomahawk alloy wheels, a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system,7 inch fully digital LCD virtual cockpit, keyless engine start, LED headlights, and a digital instrument cluster. The sporty fastback design in particular makes it stand out rather than its engine specifications.
Safety wise, the MG5 is equipped with MG Pilot driver assist safety system which includes features such as Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert as well as regular safety features such as ABS, EBD, traction control, cornering brake control. The MG 5 has 6 airbags.
Five colours are on offer, Nuclear Yellow, Dynamic Red, Arctic White, Black Pearl and Camden Grey
MG HS: A Strong Contender in the SUV Segment
On the SUV front, the MG HS is poised to challenge the likes of the Proton X70. The HS that has arrived in Malaysia is the facelifted version of the first-generation model, which has been on sale in our neighboring countries since 2020. Two variants are being offered, the MG HS Standard and MG HS Lux with an estimated price starting from RM130,000
The main differences between the two variants are the amount of equipment, with the LUX additionally coming with the full suite of MG Pilot ADAS system, 18" wheels, 12.3 inch meter cluster, MG iSMART, sports seats and 360 degree camera.
The MG HS measures 4,574 mm in length and 1,876 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm—making it slightly larger than the Proton X70. The HS is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that generates 162 PS and 250 Nm of torque, with power delivered to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
On the exterior front, the MG HS features a bold front grille and bumper design that helps to portray a luxurious look. At the rear, the bumper with dual exhaust outlets gives it a sporty look. Front or rear, all lights are LED and at the sides you’ll find 18 inch Diamond cut wheels at all four corners.
On the inside, the SUV features sports seats for front driver and passenger, 64 theme ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof. Connectivity isn’t forgotten as the SUV features a12.3 inch virtual meter cluster and 10 inch infotainment display with 360 degree view camera with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The SUV also features MG iSMART phone connectivity feature, which can control various functions such as air-conditioning as well as unlock the car via the user’s mobile phone. The SUV comes with powered tailgate and 463 litres of boot space.
As for safety, the SUV comes with six airbags as well as the full suite of MG pilot driver assistance system, which includes front Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assistance, lane Depaarture Warning and Prevention, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Changing Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Door Opening Warning.

Both the MG Sedan and SUV comes with a 5 year with unlimited mileage warranty (whichever comes first) and 7 years warranty on the powertrain.
Both the MG5 and MG HS are entering competitive segments dominated by established brands from China, Japan and Malaysia. How will they fare in this crowded marketplace? Stay tuned for more updates as the launch approaches!
