MG Motor Malaysia teases two upcoming models; MG 5 GT and MG HS launching soon?

While the automaker did not explicitly reveal the names, the teased images and reports strongly suggest that the upcoming models are the MG 5 GT and the MG HS facelift.

As per the series of countdown posts on MG Malaysia's social media channels, the official unveiling of the new models is scheduled for this Thursday i.e. August 22, 2024.Here’s what we can expect from the upcoming MG cars.
MG 5 GT
The MG 5 GT is a C-segment sedan set to rival the likes of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3 in Malaysia. It measures 4,675 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,473 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,68 mm.
MG currently retails the sedan in Indonesia where it comes powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine tuned to generate a maximum power of 114 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via the CVT gearbox.
Equipment kit of the upcoming MG 5 GT is likely to include LED headlamps, 17-inch wheels, a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, keyless engine start, a blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and lane change assist.
MG HS facelift
The MG HS is a C-segment SUV that has the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5 in its sights. The upcoming SUV is expected to be a facelifted version of the first-gen HS, which has been around since 2020, rather than the second-gen model that debuted globally in July.
The SUV measures 4,574 mm in length, 1,876 mm in width, 1,664 mm in height, and has a 2,720-mm long wheelbase. In Indonesia, the MG HS facelift comes equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine producing 162 PS at 5,600 rpm and 250 Nm from 1,700 to 4,400 rpm. Sending power to the front wheels is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A plug-in hybrid option of the SUV is also available in the Thai market that kicks out a total system output of 284 PS and 480 Nm and offers an electric-only range of up to 67 km.
In terms of equipment, we can expect a new Digital Burning Grille, quad-LED projector lights, a 12-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a full-fledged ADAS pack.
