Mercedes-Benz upgrades eVito Tourer’s driving range
KUALA LUMPUR: German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has improved the driving range of the eVito Tourer by more than double the energy storage capacity. The vehicle now packs in a 90kWh battery pack. The eVito Tourer is largely designed for fleet operators to work as a ride-sharing vehicle and hotel shuttle service. The battery pack provides energy to the motor which produces 203 PS maximum power and 362 Nm peak torque. The car has a fixed-speed transmission, power electronic units, and integrated cooling.
The Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer’s combined charging system (CCS) port is positioned on the left of the front bumper. The vehicle can be charged through the water-cooled 11kw onboard charger using an alternating current (AC) wall box unit. It can be also recharged up to 80 percent at 110kW in about 45 minutes using a fast direct current charger.
The Stuttgart-headquartered company claims that the eVito Tourer returns a mileage of 421 km based on 26.2kWh energy consumption for every 100km, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The new mileage is more than double compared to the eVito’s earlier model which returned 186km from an 85kW motor and a 41kWh battery pack. The eVito panel van retains the 85kW motor along with the same battery. Its speed is capped at 120kmph while that of the Tourer is 160kmph. The lighter battery of the panel van lends more room for a higher payload. The panel van has been designed mostly for last-mile deliveries.
Like most electric vehicles, the eVito Tourer uses regenerative braking. Paddle shifters change the ergo recuperation and brake resistance levels. The car is available in lengths of 5,140 mm and 5,370 mm. The latter has a cargo-carrying capacity of 391 litres and can accommodate up to nine occupants.
The Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer has features like app-based remote charging timer, and cabin heating and pre-cooling when on charge. The company is offering an AC wall box charger with the vehicle.
The upgraded eVito dominated the headlines when Mercedes-Benz announced its revised Vito range earlier this week. All vehicles in the Vito series are now equipped with a better infotainment system and improved safety functions.
