Mercedes-Benz strengthens after-sales support across Asia-Pacific with new regional logistics center in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR:  Mercedes-Benz has bolstered its after-sales capabilities within the Asia-Pacific region with the launch of a new Regional Logistics Center (RLCM) in Malaysia.

Mercedes-Benz Regional Logistics Center (RLCM)

The facility, operated by Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd., is strategically located in Senai Airport City Free Zone, Johor, and is designed to streamline logistics operations across 20 countries in the region, enhancing customer service efficiency and responsiveness.

Jan Fischer, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd., emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, "Our investment in Malaysia underscores our commitment to exceptional customer care throughout the Asia Pacific Region and highlights Malaysia's strategic significance as a logistics hub. The new Regional Logistics Center Malaysia is one of Mercedes-Benz’s most important logistics projects in the past decade, reaffirming our dedication to Malaysia’s economic growth and sustainability." Fischer also noted how Johor's infrastructure and skilled workforce provide a foundation for operational success, reflecting Mercedes-Benz’s long-term growth strategy in the region.

At the launch event, Johor’s Chief Minister, YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, remarked on the facility’s potential to bolster the state's role as a major logistics hub in Southeast Asia.

He stated, "Mercedes-Benz’s Regional Logistics Center Malaysia in Johor marks a significant milestone in our state’s economic development. This facility not only strengthens Johor's role as a key logistics hub in Southeast Asia but also fosters talent development and provides valuable career opportunities for our people."

Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, CEO of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), highlighted Malaysia’s appeal as a strategic business destination. He shared, “This decision truly reflects Malaysia’s appeal as a business destination, underpinned by robust market demand, a conducive business environment, and a skilled workforce. The inauguration of Mercedes-Benz’s new Regional Logistics Center in Malaysia marks a significant achievement that contributes to the country’s aim of becoming a Global Services Hub by 2025 as outlined in the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP).”

Major Investment for Long-Term Regional Growth

Mercedes-Benz has demonstrated its commitment to Malaysia’s economic landscape with a substantial paid-up capital of RM189 million for the RLCM, which is expected to grow further, reaching RM1.5 billion by 2035. This phased investment is set to expand the center’s operational capacity, supporting business growth across the Asia-Pacific region.

Cutting-Edge Facility and Focus on Sustainability

Occupying over one million square feet, the RLCM employs state-of-the-art technology to enhance handling, flexibility, and workflow, positioning it as a leader in logistics within the region. The facility manages a diverse range of products, including spare parts, accessories, and workshop tools, catering to Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars and Vans.

The RLCM integrates advanced logistics technologies, such as an in-house warehouse management system, specialized forklifts, and Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) systems to maximize space. With future enhancements like automated storage solutions, drones, and autonomous cleaning robots, the center is set to maintain a leading role in logistics innovation.

Aligned with Mercedes-Benz's global sustainability goals, the RLCM aims for carbon neutrality by 2039. The center features a photovoltaic (PV) system for renewable energy, has earned Green Building Index (GBI) certification, and follows stringent Environmental, Social, and Governance Reporting Standards (ESRS) for transparency and environmental impact. In addition, the RLCM complies with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards for Quality and Environmental Management.

Local Talent Development and Economic Contributions

The RLCM’s presence in Malaysia brings substantial economic benefits, creating high-value jobs and offering comprehensive training programs in logistics and supply chain management. By empowering local talent, Mercedes-Benz is not only building its workforce but also contributing to Malaysia’s position as an essential logistics hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
