Mercedes-Benz reveals X118 CLA Shooting Brake in Geneva

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has revealed X118 CLA Shooting Brake – second-gen in Geneva, quite ahead of its market launch in September 2019. The car is said to be a reiteration based on the C118 CLA Coupe, which made its debut earlier this year at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The 2nd generation model has been revamped a lot with changed body dimensions. The X118 is 48 mm longer, 53 mm wider, and 2 mm shorter, and it has a wider track than its 2014’s predecessor. It also possesses a clean outfit, with style resembling that of the coupe up to the B-pillar. Reduced number of character lines and complete removal of shoulder lines complements the cleaner look.

Inside the vehicle, one would find designs drawing a degree of similarity to that in the CLA. The main highlight being the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) for a better user experience that includes a high-resolution wide-screen cockpit and AR-enhanced navigation technology. Added to this, is an option for system activation via “Hey Mercedes!” voice command. Moreover, the interior is also furnished with turbine-styled air-conditioning vents and a 64-color ambient lighting system. Driving is assisted by functions like Active Distance Assist Distronic and Active Lane Change Assist along with Active Steer Assist.

The vehicle will be powered by a four-cylinder M260 petrol engine, which is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 224 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The mill is paired to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission.

Though no information is available about particular engine variants, the automobile manufacturer has said that by the time of its launch, a variety of diesel and petrol engines will be available to the buyers.
