Mercedes-Benz reveals images and details of GLB
KUALA LUMPUR: The German global automobile marque, Mercedes-Benz earlier revealed the GLB in June and has now unveiled details and images of its 7-seat compact SUV. The Mercedes-Benz GLB is kept in the company’s compact vehicle lineup that includes the CLA, A-Class, and GLA.
Moreover, it runs on the MFA2 architecture. According to the reports, it is confirmed that the SUV will be coming to the Malaysian market. However, the carmaker has not disclosed the launch date and the trims that will be offered to the buyers.
Mercedes-Benz GLB is the first compact car from the brand that comes with seven seats divided across three rows. If you are not into seven-seaters, then you can get the option of a five-seater spread across two rows. However, the SUV is not exactly compact, considering its dimensions.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 1,834 mm wide, 4,634 mm long, 1,663 mm (seven-seater) or 1,659 mm (five-seater) tall, and with a 2,829 mm wheelbase. For the sake of comparison, the GLC is 1,890 mm wide, 4,656 mm long, a 2,873 mm wheelbase, and 1,639 mm tall.
Without folding down the seats, you get a boot space of 130 litres (seven-seater) or 570 litres (five-seater). However, the figures changes to 1,680 litres (seven-seater) or 1,805 litres (five-seater), when folded down.
Moving to the powertrain options, GLB 200 comes with an M282 1.33-litre Renault-derived turbocharged four-cylinder churning out 163 PS (161 hp) of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque from 1,620 to 4,000 rpm.
The power is sent to the front wheels via a 7G-DCT seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The vehicle is capable of hitting the 0-100 kmph mark in just 9.1 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 207 km/h.
The higher variant GLB 250 4Matic gets an M260 2.0-litre turbo-four generating 224 PS (221 hp) from 5,500 to 6,100 rpm and 350 Nm from 1,800 to 4,000 rpm. It is mated to the 8G-DCT unit and flaunts the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV comes with plenty of safety features such as active steer assist, distance assist distronic, evasive steering assists, speed limit assists, blind spot assist, active lane-keeping assist, pre-safe plus, and brake assist.
