Mercedes-Benz reveals all-electric premium MPV; EQV

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz, the German premium carmaker has taken the wraps off its first fully electric premium MPV, EQV. It is going to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019, which will kick off from 12th September. Earlier the carmaker previewed the all-electric van in Geneva Motor Show. 

It is based on the W447 V-Class facelift and is available in two different wheelbase options - 3,200 mm and 3,430 mm. It is the V-Class battery-electric version, while the production phase is likely to take place in Spain alongside its diesel-powered cousin. 

There is an electric powertrain under the hood that contains an electric motor, a fixed-gear transmission and cooling system. The complete system is capable of churning out a maximum power of 201 hp. The power comes from a 100 kWh (90-kWh usable) lithium-ion battery that sits under the floor. Moreover, the battery is capable of providing an overall driving range of 405 km.

There is an 11kWh water-cooled onboard charger (OBC), which can refill the battery in maximum 10 hours. While with the DC charging through the CCS (Combined Charging Systems) port, can charge it from 10% to 80% in just 45 minutes at a rate of 110 kW. However, in only 15 minutes of charge with this, the van can cover up to 100 km.

Designing-wise, the car looks the same as the V-Class, while there is a black panel radiator grille having chrome fins and a high-tech silver exterior. Despite having the 19-inch wheels in the concept, the production model will ride on the 18-inch EQ design lightweight wheels.

Getting inside there is a Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system that contains innovative connectivity features and a 10-inch high-resolution touchscreen display having learning voice operation.
