Mercedes-Benz EQT electric van concept breaks cover
KUALA LUMPUR: This year, the Mercedes-Benz all-electric EQ division has already unveiled the EQB, EQS, and EQA electric cars. And now it has come up with yet another EQ model and that is the ‘EQT’, an electric family van. The automaker just unveiled the EQT in concept form that is likely to enter production soon as an electric equivalent of the upcoming T-class.
Mercedes has planned to unveil the T-Class first and then its electric variant. The T-Class is a smaller form of the brand’s V-Class van carrying the same luxury appeal, comfort, connectivity, functionality, and safety.
Coming back to the EQT, it carries a design language inspired by the EQS limousine. Upfront, there is a prominent black panel grille featuring a 3D star effect, and there are a cool set of slim LED headlights connected by a full-width light bar. On the back, we can observe a set of equally striking LED tail lights, which are also interlinked by an illuminated bar below the rear window. The electric van runs on huge 21-inch alloy wheels and has an expansive panoramic roof.
Gordon Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group, says, "Sensuous shapes, elegant trims, and sustainable materials show that this van clearly belongs to our Mercedes-EQ family."
The luxurious-looking cabin of the EQT has Nappa leather seats, a multifunction steering wheel, and a big touchscreen running the brand’s MBUX infotainment system. The van has sliding doors that ease the accessibility to the third row of seats. A pair of rear integrated tables are also shown on the concept model.
As for safety, the electric EQT may get advanced driver assists like autonomous emergency braking system, lane keep assist, trailer stability control, crosswind assist, and adaptive cruise control. Mercedes claims that it will be the first product of its kind as it will bring advanced technologies and luxury to the segment.
About the EOT’s powertrain configuration, the automaker has not revealed any details as of now, however, the speculation roams around borrowing the setups from the Renault Kangoo E-Tech Electric. And thus, we can expect an electric motor good for making a maximum power of 101 hp and a peak torque of 245 Nm. The model will have a 45-kWh battery pack capable of providing a range of 265 km (WLTP) between top-ups.
Other than EQT, the automaker is presently working on the EQE, which is a fully electric counterpart of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Class.
