Mercedes-Benz EQA teased ahead of its official reveal in 2020
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has revealed teaser images of the EQA ahead of its global debut in 2020. The Concept EQA is set to feature a powerful electric drive system and come accompanied by two electric motors with a system output, with options to increase to over 200 kW.
The teaser reveals that it gets a similar roofline compared to the GLA SUV, along with a sneak peek of the future EV models. It can also be assumed that the German global automobile marque will offer some signature EQ elements like a closed-off grille, innovative front and rear lighting, similar to that of the EQC SUV.
The concept car is said to generate acceleration from 0 - 100 km/h in 5.0 sec, generating a top speed of 200 km/h and peak torque of up to 500 Nm. The vehicle features an automatic transmission with an electric range of 350 km.
It can be expected that the production model of the EV will come equipped with similar powertrain and deliver similar performance. The power will be distributed amongst the four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system. In addition to that, the car is accompanied by practical performance gadgets such as the ‘Sports’ mode that aids in altering the distribution of torque between the rear and front wheels.
The carmakers are planning to come up with another EV model named EQB, after EQA, which will be based on the GLB. By the year 2022, the brand will offer ten EQ branded models. It is also planning to work on improved charging solutions through its ChargePoint (EV charging provider in America) investment.
"With the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, our electric initiative is gathering pace: by 2022 Mercedes-Benz Cars will have more than ten all-electric vehicles on the market," stated Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
