Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe launched in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: Previewed on the official Facebook page of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) few days before, the marque has given insights about Mercedes-AMG S 63 launch. The wait has come to end now with the launch of the two-door coupe at the price tag of RM1,493,888.
At showrooms, you can look after its S-Class Coupe variant at the mentioned price. At the global level, Mercedes-AMG S 63 was debut back in 2014, revealing its sleek and radical design. Finally, showing its presence in the Malaysian market, the car features all the right exterior AMG fitments, including an aggressive AMG A-wing front bumper design, a twin-blade AMG grille with a piano black insert, large air intakes, quad exhaust tips and more. In addition to it, the car gets the Intelligent Light System as standard kit and the 47 Swarovski crystals that form a decadent, yet integral part of the headlamp design.
Going the AMG route has brought about additional exterior kit compared to the regular S-Class Coupe – there a new bumper design shaped in the same vein as the E 63 AMG's, larger side sills and new 19-inch ten-spoke forged wheels in 255/45R19 rubbers up front and 285/40R19 in the rear. As an option, you can also go for a 20-inch 10-spoke type wrapped in 255/45R20 tyres up front, and 285/35R20 for the rear.
Even more, there is also a third wheel option to consider for your S 63 Coupe in the form of a 20-inch, five twin-spoke design painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and a black wheel bolt cover. However, the pricing for such accessories are still in the dark.
The car features red brake calipers, and ‘S’ labelling on the boot lid. The evaluator came equipped with the optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system available for the variant, as denoted by the presence of the “AMG Carbon Ceramic” logo on the callipers. This unique braking system features upsized 402 mm front discs and is 40% percent lighter providing reduced unsprung masses and enhanced driving dynamics.
Coming to its interior side, S-Class Coupe wrap-around dashboard incorporates two 12.3-inch display screens, circular air-conditioning vents and the necessary climate control switchgear. There’s black nappa leather upholstery with grey contrast stitching, silver seat belts, an AMG emblem in the headrests, and AMG door sills with white LED illumination and an AMG instrument cluster.
The M157 5.5 litre twin-turbocharged V8 puts out this vehicle to produce power output of 585 hp at 5,500 rpm and 900 Nm of twist from 2,250 to 3,750 rpm, easily eclipsing the 455 hp and 700 Nm from the 4.7 litre V8 found on the S 500 variant.

The engine is paired with a seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission, an automatic unit with its torque converter replaced with a multi-pack clutch. The S 63 is available as a rear-wheel drive offering or as a 4MATIC variant, and each comes with a different AMG suspension setup – the former gets Magic Body Control while the 4MATIC gets a version of the standard AIRMATIC air suspension. The Malaysian-spec car, the only S-Class Coupe model sold here, is the rear-wheel drive version, and performance figures include a 0-100 km/h of 4.3 seconds for it (the 4MATIC version is a shade faster, at 3.9 seconds). Top speed is electronically-limited to 250 km/h.
The unit offers four drive modes, these being “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) and “M” (Manual).
