Meet one of the most potent SUVs, the 2021 Alpina XB7
KUALA LUMPUR: A few days back, we informed you that Alpina is working on a high-performance SUV for its lineup. Well, the day has finally arrived, and we have amongst us the 2021 Alpina XB7. It is the most powerful version of the BMW X7, powered by a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbocharged mill that churns out 612 PS and 800 Nm of torque. It’s exciting, right?
Compared to the standard BMW X7, this one gets a bump of 90 PS and 50 Nm. To achieve this, Alpina has equipped the SUV with two additional water coolers, Alpina-specific intercoolers, twin-scroll turbochargers, a larger transmission oil cooler, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Also, it is going to get a high-impact sound with its pronounced 8-cylinder set up with an exhaust valve fully operating in the Sport mode. The 612 PS of power produced by the mill will be sent to all-four wheels via the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic paddle shifters on the steering. The transmission is specifically designed to handle the high torque and is equipped with an aluminium transmission oil sump. Like the standard X7, the XB7 comes with an Integral Active Steering.
According to Alpina’s claims, the BMW XB7 can cover 0 to 100 kmph trip is 4.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 290 kmph when the SUV is fitted with 21-inch wheels on high-performance tyres.
But wait, the twin-turbo mill is not the only thing from BMW X7 that Alpina has worked-up. The XB7 features a two-axle air suspension with Alpina-specific dampers that can lower the car’s body by 1.6-inch. The ride height can be raised in the original setting when the vehicle is in Sport Plus mode or at a speed of more than 249 kmph.
Alpina XB7 rides on 21-inch wheels that are wrapped with either all-season or performance summer tyres. Also available is a better set of 23-inch wheels with a classic 20-spoke design. Additional exterior tweaks include ‘Alpina’ script written over the front splitter, larger air intakes on the front bumper, two twin tailpipes on the rear diffuser, and not to forget, the lower stance.
The interior decision of the new XB7 is finely crafted to provide the best touch, comfort, and sensory delight. Three rows of seats can generously accommodate six to seven occupants and are optionally available in premium LAVALIKNA leather. Further contributing to the exquisite interior feel are refinements such as the iDrive Controller in crystal glass, touch displays, gesture control, and more.
The U.S market will be the first one to receive the 2021 Alpina XB7. Order books are open now, and the car is slated to arrive in September.
