Mazda Malaysia to introduce three new locally assembled SUVs

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Mazda cars in Malaysia, Bermaz Auto, is all set to introduce three new SUVs - the CX-30, updated CX-5, and CX-8. All the three Mazda vehicles will be locally assembled at the company’s production facility in Kulim. Mazda has recently upgraded this production facility with an investment of RM 200 million, which in turn increases the production capacity from 30,000 to 50,000 units.

Talking separately about each of these cars, the CX-5 is a handsome SUV that is powered by a 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G 4-cylinder petrol mill that offers 230 PS and 420 Nm of peak torque. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic gearbox that sends power either to all four or front wheels. Based on WLTP protocols, the average fuel consumption is 12.6 kmpl.

Mazda CX-5 specs sheet includes -

  • G-Vectoring Control (GVC)
  • Nighttime pedestrian detection function
  • Advanced Smart City Braking Support (SCBS) system
  • 360-degree camera
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • New tweeters for the standard sound system
  • 19-inch alloys with a dark gloss finish
  • Deep Red Nappa leather upholstery
  • Real woodgrain interior trimmings
  • Frameless rear-view mirror
  • 7-inch TFT LCD instrument display
  • LED ambient lighting

As for the Mazda CX-30, we are not sure about the engine mill that’ll power the car in the local market. However, we are sure it’ll get one of the automaker’s latest engines, including the SkyActiv-X unit. Once launched, the CX-30 would rest between the CX-3 and CX-5.

Last but not least, the CX-8 was first previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow. Back then, we were told that the Malaysian-spec model would either be a 6- or 7-seater model. Engine options include a 188 hp/450 Nm 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D 4-cylinder turbodiesel and a 192 hp/257 Nm 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G naturally aspirated petrol unit. Both the engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Mazda CX-8 standard equipment list includes -

  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Automatic LED headlamps
  • LED fog lamps, LED taillights
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Triple-zone climate control
  • 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • MZD Connect infotainment
  • Six airbags
  • Dynamic Stability Control
  • ABS with EBD and brake assist
  • Traction control
