Mazda CX-30 reveled at Geneva Motor Show

KUALA LUMPUR: The speculated ‘second-generation CX-3’ has officially made its debut as CX-30 at the Geneva Motor Show 2019, only a month after it was teased. It is a new SUV model that fills the gap between the crossover CX-3 and the larger CX-5.

The availability of CX-4 exclusively for the Chinese markets compels us to conclude that the CX-30 is the European counterpart of the former. Even in the making of its body, the new car is longer, wider, and taller than the CX-3 but the dimensions sit behind to that of CX-5. Also, the wheelbase draws the same nature of characteristics. The vehicle is also smaller than the Chinese CX-4 in every aspect.

It follows the Kodo design philosophy that includes curves with poise and balance (Sori) and plays of light. Use of empty space (Yohaku) and shadow (Utsoroi) are reflected in the cosmetics of the car. Whiffs of Japanese calligraphy also finds its place in the “S shape” of the door panels. The dark-colored chrome grille carries the brand’s logo at the centre and intrudes into the boundaries of narrow headlamps on either side. Features like Active Driving Display, 8.8-inch primary display, Bose 12-speaker setup, and MZD Connect infotainment system, which one can find across most of the Mazda cars are included here as well.

At the engine front, the vehicle comes with latest SkyActiv range of petrol and diesel mills that includes the Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology, which ought to combine the benefits of a traditional spark-ignition gasoline engine with that of a compression-ignition diesel engine. The petrol variants come with Mazda’s M Hybrid system, operating on a 24-volt mild hybrid system.

The company says that the car will be available in nine color options including the unique Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal, and Polymetal Grey.
