Mazda adds more power to 2021 CX-5 and CX-8
KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t get excited by just reading headlines, as the said Mazda update is limited to the Japanese market only with no news of its arriving elsewhere.
Starting with the CX-5, its 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel mill has received a slight power bump, from 188 hp to 197 hp. The torque remains unchanged at 450 Nm, however, improvement is expected in gear change and throttle response.
As for the petrol engines, it remains unchanged in both the Mazda models, however they do benefit from an improved six-speed automatic transmission with enhanced responsive programming helping in overtaking situations and off-the-line performance.
On the inside, the CX-5 gets a new upgraded infotainment system with ‘Mazda Connect’ interface either 8.8- or 10.25-inch display sizes, depending on the variant. So, it’s a goodbye for the ongoing 8.8-inch system. With the new faster processor, the infotainment system will provide improved images, sound quality. Also, 360-degree view cameras and accurate satellite navigation will be standard offerings.
As for Mazda CX-8, it gains several design revisions. Take for instance the new, more striking looking grille, revised front bumper, and restyled tailpipes. New convenient features include a wireless charger and hands-free power tailgate with rear bumper located foot sensor. It also gets a new, more premium-looking quilted leather upholstery.
