Malaysia-bound MG Cyberster launched in Indonesia; price starts at RM 489k

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show has begun with a bang in Jakarta, featuring several exciting models from different automakers. Among the standout reveals is the MG Cyberster, a two-door, two-seater sports car first introduced at Auto Shanghai 2023.

MG Indonesia offers the Cyberster EV at a starting price of IDR 1.688 billion (approx RM 489,135). For the first 100 buyers, the automaker offers an attractive deal i.e. a lifetime battery warranty.

Developed by MG Advanced Design Centre in London, the MG Cyberster is based on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which also underpins the MG 4 EV available in Malaysia. The electric roadster measures 4,533 mm in length, 1,912 mm in width, and 1,328 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,689 mm. 

The Indonesia-spec MG Cyberster is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup that is tuned to generate a maximum power of 544 PS and a peak torque of 725 Nm. Feeding the motors is a 77 kWh battery pack that offers a range of up to 580 km (on the CLTC cycle). Performance-wise, the EV runs from zero to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, making it a high-performance electric car.

In terms of design, the Cyberster retains the proportions of a traditional roadster with a long bonnet and a relatively short tail. It features a clean silhouette that gently flows into the deck incorporating black plastic elements. Key highlights include -
