Leaked: BYD Dolphin EV is getting big changes for 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: BYD is shaking up the electric vehicle market in Malaysia with its advanced and relatively affordable electric cars. One of the best-selling BYD EVs in the country is the Dolphin which joined the local lineup in July last year. This popular electric hatchback is due for an overhaul in 2025.

The 2025 BYD Dolphin will be larger and sportier than the outgoing model. As per the reports, the subcompact EV will not be getting only cosmetic changes but the powertrain upgrades are also on the horizon.
2025 BYD Dolphin: What to expect?
Design
In terms of exterior, the upgraded Dolphin will feature refreshed front and rear designs for a more sporty and athletic look. The front will benefit from larger headlights and an updated bumper with a lower apron and new corner air intakes, adding to the performance. The rear end will have new tail lights with a simplified LED pattern along with a refreshed bumper.
Another noticeable cosmetic upgrade will be the replacement of the ‘Build Your Dreams’ wordmark with a BYD logo at the rear. This revision put the EV hatchback in sync with the brand’s latest refreshed models, including Atto 3 and Seal.
For the model year 2025, the BYD Dolphin will also get new colour choices and new 16- and 17-inch wheel designs.
Dimensions
As per MITI’s report, the 2025 BYD Dolphin measures 4280 mm in length, 1770 mm in width, and 1570 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2700 mm. With other dimensions remaining unchanged, the upcoming version will be 155 mm longer than the existing one.
Drivetrain
Beyond the exterior, the EV is also expected to get some technical upgrades. As per the leaked documents, it will now come with three electric motor options in the Chinese market, including 70 kW, 150 kW, and a new 130 kW option.
As for battery packs, choices are likely to remain the same with 44.9 kWh and 60.48 kWh units, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 340 km and 427 km, respectively.
Features
In terms of features, we can expect a larger 15.6-inch infotainment unit, new ADAS systems, and more optional bits like a panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass, and a black roof.
Launch timeline
The new BYD Dolphin is expected to hit Chinese roads sometime in 2025, with Malaysia and other markets likely to follow soon after.
