Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible Officially Unveiled
Kuala Lumpur: After a lot of teasing, Land Rover has finally unveiled its Range Rover Evoque Convertible which would go on sale in mid-2016 and would be built at automaker’s Halewood facility in the UK. Previewed as a concept in 2012 in Geneva, it would be known as ‘world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible’. This car would be made available in two trim levels namely HSE Dynamic and HSE Dynamic Lux with a starting price tag of RM312,592.

Keeping the looks of its coupe sibling, it eschews the fixed metal roof to make room for a fully-automated retractable roof that maintains its original shape. This lightweight fabric roof transforms the Evoque from coupe to convertible in just 18 seconds which can be operated at speeds of up to 48 kmph. Towards the front fascia it features the same LED headlights which were first seen on the Evoque facelift along with an enlarged air intake and LED fog lamps. Inside, the basic architecture goes unchanged apart from the inclusion of Jaguar Land Rover’s latest infotainment system, InControl Touch Pro. This system features a huge 10.2-inch HD touchscreen which offers ‘door-to-door’ navigation capabilities along with 3G internet connectivity, remote tracking and smartphone integration. Regardless if the top is up or down, the high-riding cabrio offers a decent cargo capacity of 251 litres. The automaker has also fitted the car with a roll-over protection device (RPD) which contains a deployable roll-over protection system hidden in the rear quarter panel. In case of a roll-over situation, RPD will automatically deploy two aluminium bars in just 90 milliseconds to create a protection space for occupants.
Beneath the hood, it comes with an option of a diesel engine and a petrol engine as well. The Ingenium 2.0-litre TD4 turbodiesel engine churns out a maximum power of 180 PS at 4000 rpm along with a peak torque of 430 Nm at 1750 rpm. While the 2.0-litre Si4 petrol mill puts out a total power of 240 PS at 5800 rpm alongside a commanding torque of 340 Nm at 1750 rpm. Further, both the engines are paired with a ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox.
