Kia Malaysia increases prices of some models by RM 1k to RM 5k
KUALA LUMPUR: It was at the beginning of this month that Kia Malaysia dealers started posting on social media about the price hike of a few models - all due to the change in the excise duties. Naza Kia has confirmed the change in the prices and is effective August. The select Kia variants to undergo price hike are Grand Carnival, Picanto, Sorento, and Rio.
The cheapest model on the list is the Picanto GT Line, the hatch has seen a price hike of RM 2000, thus bringing the total to RM 59,888. The price tag of Kia Rio 1.4 SX now reads RM 79,888, i.e., only RM 1000 more. As for the range-topping Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi SX is now RM 4000 expensive at RM 189,888.
Moving further, the Grand Carnival base model, the KX now retails for RM 159,888, up by RM 4,000. The range-topping SX model costs RM 189,888, that’s an extra charge of RM 5,000. It is to be noted that no other model in the Kia Malaysia lineup has been affected by the change in excise duties.
This means that for some Kia models, the price tag has gone up to the point before the abolishment of the GST (goods and services tax). The newly-introduced Kia Picanto GT Line, the Grand Carnival SX, and the Sorento 2.2 CRDi SX are the exceptions to the list.
