Jeep’s upcoming three-row SUV official teaser out now
KUALA LUMPUR: As the world of SUVs and crossovers expanded internationally, many automakers rolled out their seven-seater models in the recent past, and Jeep is no exception to this. The American auto giant recently unveiled the new Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee L and now it has buckled up for a smaller three-row SUV based on the Compass, whose first official teaser video is out now.
The 19-second long video of the model is shared by Jeep Brazil, which reveals its quick silhouette identical to Jeep’s other unibody-based models. It will be slotted above the Compass in the company’s lineup and will be initially made for Brazilian and Indian marketplaces.
Internally, it is codenamed as H6; however, the real name has not yet been confirmed. The earlier rumours suggested the ‘Patriot’ moniker; but the teaser previews two letters of its name, which are ‘E’ and ‘R’. This ruled out the earlier speculations and hints towards the comeback of the ‘Commander’ badge. The automaker used this for the Grand-Cherokee-based three-row SUV in the 2000s. Also, there is a Jeep SUV in China with the name Grand Commander.
About the SUV’s design, the earlier reports suggested that it will be a carbon copy of the Compass with just two additional seats, however, the teaser video is telling some other story. A closer analysis of the video reveals that it will have a different front fascia with a more straight and detailed grille, and exclusive headlights. In terms of technology, we can expect all modern-day bits like the latest-generation infotainment system, 4G connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor, and lane departure warning.
When it comes to powertrain under the bonnet, we know that the Jeep’s upcoming three-row SUV will have two options on offer as the automaker has already confirmed this. The first is 1.3-litre turbo petrol, while the second one being a re-tuned 2-litre turbo diesel motor; more capable than the ongoing version found in Jeep’s lineup. The SUV will share its underpinnings with the Renegade and Compass with some modifications to accommodate third-row.
The world premiere of the SUV is set to take place in Q2, 2021.
