Jeep reveals 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer
KUALA LUMPUR: Jeep has revealed the all-new 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer for the US market, and we don’t expect the duo to arrive in the ASEAN countries any time soon. In the Jeep US lineup, the twins are shelved above the Grand Cherokee L. Also, the two make the revival of the iconic Wagoneer nameplate that was last seen in 1993.
The two share a few things, one of which is the dimensions. They measure 5,453 mm in length, 283 mm in width, 1,920 mm in height, and have a wheelbase of 3,124 mm. These figures put the duo on the same page as the US-spec Chevrolet Suburban, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Jeep Wagoneer twins’ design language seems to be inspired by the Grand Wagoneer concept showcased in September 2020. As the duo feature the same LED front & rear lighting units, wide but sleek seven-slot grille, and broad body-coloured door pillars. Also, the two feature the same upright body structure as the concept.
Being the more luxurious of the two, the Grand Wagoneer gets a few additional exterior elements like metallic window surrounds, unique badging, ‘WAGONEER’ badging on the grille, and tweaked front bumper & rear license plate surrounds. Furthermore, it benefits from ‘Liquid Chrome’ exterior trim.
Open the door and you’ll be greeted by a cabin that is loaded with luxurious and comforting features. The two-spoke steering wheel and the rectangular air-vents are surrounded by a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment system.
The Jeep Wagoneer gets a 10.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touch display. There is an additional 10.3-inch screen on higher grades models to control several features, including the air-con system.
The bigger and more luxurious Jeep Grand Wagoneer, on the other hand, comes with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.0-inch infotainment touch screen. In front of the front passenger sits a 10.3-inch ‘co-pilot’ screen that enables them to control functions such as navigation, answering emails, navigation, accessing social media, and playing video. Furthermore, the rear passengers get a pair of 10.1-inch displays with movie and TV streaming thanks to Amazon Fire TV integration.
All the Jeep Wagoneer models including the entry-level Grand Wagoneer called the Series I come wrapped in Nappa leather. The Grand Wagoneer’s mid- and top-range model (the Series I and Series II) get the more plush Palermo leather.
The Jeep Wagoneer is powered by 5.7-litre V8 mild-hybridized Hemi petrol mill that makes a maximum power of 392 hp and 548 Nm. The said mill is coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Coming to Jeep Grand Wagoneer there’s a bigger mill, a naturally-aspirated 6.4-litre Hemi V8 making 471hp and 617 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Jeep US has put a heavy price tag on the duo, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer retails for US$57,995 (RM 238,301) and US$110,000 (RM 451,990), respectively.
