It's the end of the road for Ferrari GTCR Lusso and Lusso T
KUALA LUMPUR: Ferrari has confirmed that it is ending the production of the GTC4 Lusso and Lusso T. The company's official statement read, "In accordance with its five-year model strategy announced in 2017 and the company's standard model life cycle, Ferrari has phased out production of the GTC4 Lusso and GTC4 Lusso T."
The grand tourer was introduced in 2016 as a replacement for the FF and was said to be the most practical car in the automaker's lineup. Why? Well, the GTC4 Lusso offered four seats and usable boot space. Like the FF, it featured an all-wheel-drive system and a 6.3-litre V12 mill with a raised power output of 690 hp. It was also the first car in the company's lineup to feature rear-wheel steering.
Ferrari, a while later in 2018, introduced a more affordable, entry-level trim called GTC4 Lusso T. This one was powered by a modified version of the 3.8-litre V8 mill and was rear-wheel drive only.
The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso attracted a lot of following throughout its life-cycle. The company claimed to have sold over 1,496 units in Europe alone. The car is now phased out as the automaker has to concentrate its energy on its first SUV, dubbed as the Purosangue (meaning thoroughbred in Italian).
The upcoming Ferrari SUV is due for 2022. It will be around five meters in length and have four seats. The Purosangue will benefit from the automaker's scalable front-mid-engine architecture that will underline Ferrari's future models. As for its powertrain configuration, we expect both V12 and V6 plug-in hybrid versions of the SUV.
In other news, Ferrari recently introduced the SF90 Stradale, the first series-production plug-in hybrid car. The deliveries were initially scheduled to begin in the first half of 2020, but got delayed due to the pandemic, now it has been pushed to later this year.
