IAA Mobility 2023: Mercedes-Benz introduces the latest Concept CLA Class and more

KUALA LUMPUR: At IAA Mobility 2023, Ola Källenius, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, unveiled a groundbreaking concept car and other existing models. The concept is dubbed as Concept CLA Class, it is the first vehicle based on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) with a range of more than 750 km (WLTP). Mercedes-Benz's global 'Defining Class since 1886' campaign was also launched at the event.

Let’s know the major highlights of the event in detail -

Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA Class

The new concept car defines the company’s vision to elevate the vehicle portfolio at the gateway to the brand. According to the brand, the new Concept CLA Class sets itself apart with its impressive energy efficiency over long distances, groundbreaking innovations, stunning and unique appearance, use of eco-friendly materials, and the introduction of a completely new operating system called MB.OS.

"With the Concept CLA Class as a predecessor and the four upcoming MMA vehicles, we are elevating every aspect of what customers can expect from Mercedes-Benz in this segment. With a range of more than 750 kilometres (466 miles) (WLTP), the Concept CLA Class could easily take you from Munich to Hamburg on a single charge. MB.OS will create a fundamentally enhanced customer experience from driving assistance and navigation to charging and on-board entertainment. And we're also exploring what's possible in terms of sustainability with this vehicle. Across the entire MMA fleet, we will reduce CO2 emissions in our value chain by more than 40 percent compared to the previous architecture." Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the E-Class All-Terrain, a fresh entry to the E-Class family. This model features off-road modes, up to 46mm ground clearance, AIRMATIC air suspension, 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and is ideal for off-roading. 

Mercedes-Benz EQ models

Mercedes-Benz also unveiled four new EVs at IAA Mobility: EQA, EQV, EQB, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which made its European debut). 

Mercedes-Benz Charging Network

Mercedes-Benz is dedicated to enhancing the EV experience with the launch of a global Charging Network, starting with Charging Hubs in Mannheim (Germany), Chengdu (China), and  Atlanta (USA) in the fall of 2023. 

Mercedes-Benz's Charging Network will utilize intelligent charging for the quickest charging time and will be open to EVs from all brands. 

Class-leading user experience

Mercedes-Benz is taking automotive innovation to the next level by offering an extensive package of features that customers can access through over-the-air (OTA) updates. Notable upgrades include video streaming capabilities, Dolby Atmos® for immersive audio, and the integration of advanced voice features like Tourguide and NewsFlash. These updates will initially be implemented on models having the second-generation MBUX (NTG7) systems, expected to be released between August and November 2023. First-generation MBUX-equipped vehicle owners benefit from Place Details provided by Google. 

Electric G-Class

Mercedes-Benz is making substantial steps towards electrifying the G-Class. After introducing the all-electric Concept EQG at IAA Mobility 2021, the company is now offering a sneak peek at this legendary car's camouflaged prototype. The "G" has set a new standard in the off-road category for almost forty years with its striking silhouette representing capability and strength. This distinct DNA will survive the transition to the electric era. Visitors to the IAA Mobility 2023 will have the exclusive opportunity to inspect the car months before its formal world premiere the following year. This preview represents a big step towards the future of electrified off-road driving while keeping the current status quo.

Mercedes-AMG GT Concept E PERFORMANCE

With the introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept E PERFORMANCE at the IAA Mobility 2023, Mercedes-AMG will give a glimpse of a GT Coupé model. Inspired by Formula 1 technology, this hybrid system merges an Electric Drive Unit on the rear axle and a potent V8 petrol engine, producing over 800 hp.

Mercedes-Benz is taking part in the IAA Experience to offer visitors the chance to test drive its latest plug-in-hybrid and electric models. The company is also hosting Summit Talks on topics like customer experience, luxury, technology, and sustainability, featuring speakers like Gorden Wagener, Markus Schäfer, Magnus Östberg, Ulf Zillig, Britta Seeger and Jana Krägenbring-Noor.

Mercedes brand's full range of electric vehicles is on display at the Munich Residence's Mercedes-Benz Pavilion.
