Honda Civic Type R - 5 Things We Like
Honda Civic Type R is kind of a sportier version of the standard Honda Civic. ‘Kind of’ because unlike the standard Civic sedan, this one is a hatchback. Well, a very hot hatchback for that matter and we don’t have a problem with that.
The Civic Type R has been into production for quite some time now and in its latest avatar, Honda has tried everything to make it a complete package. And it has done a pretty good job at it, to be honest.
What are the top features of the Honda Civic Type R?
Ans. There are many things or features about the latest Civic Type R to like. The list is almost endless and we can go about it the whole day. However, today we are going to tell you only the top 5 things that we like about the Civic Type R.
Engine and Performance
We had to begin with the engine and performance because while having a look at the Honda Civic Type R specs, you will dwell on the interesting numbers. So, this hot-hatch is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which pumps out a whopping 310 PS of max power and a ground-breaking 400 Nm of peak torque!
All that force is handled by a 6-speed manual which is one of the reasons why the Civic Type R is such a popular car among enthusiasts. Oh, and it is a totally FWD car.
Engine configuration | 2.0L DOHC VTEC turbocharged |
No of cylinders | 4 |
Fuel supply system | PGM-FI (Direct Injection) |
Max power output | 310 PS at 6500 rpm |
Max torque output | 400 Nm at 2500-4500 rpm |
Transmission type | 6-speed manual |
To get the most out of this car, you will have to work with the gears. Honda claims that the Type R can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 5.8 seconds and flat out it will touch 272 km/h. While Honda wants you to build a connection with the car and work to achieve these numbers, it also provided an auto-blip function.
Brakes
The Civic Type R is a fast car and thus needs brakes capable enough to bring it to a halt in a jiffy. That’s why Honda has provided large 350 mm ventilated Brembo disc brakes at the front which are clearly visible through the gorgeous 20-in alloy wheels. Also, the red brake caliper is a very nice sporty touch than enhances the overall look of the car.
The rear set of wheels get normal solid disc brakes. And you would be disappointed to know that you can’t really make those handbrake turns because the Civic Type R gets an electronic handbrake.
Exhaust system
The rear of the Civic Type R is quite busy because of its very sharp design that includes its LED tail lamps as well as the large rear spoiler. And among all this chaos, Honda has cleverly placed the 3-piped exhaust of the car right in the middle of the rear bumper.
How does the Civic Type R sound?
Ans. It indeed has a great-looking exhaust, however, it isn’t going to give you the goosebumps that you would be expecting. Yes, the Civic Type R is a performance-oriented machine but its exhaust note doesn’t do justice to the acceleration.
Type R seats
Another feature of the Civic Type R that differentiates it from the standard Civic is its Type R seats. These seats come with integrated headrests and are wrapped in red suede style fabric.
Are the seats comfortable?
Ans. Yes, they provide a good amount of comfort. Honda has also increased the side bolstering so that you don’t move around much while tackling corners at high speeds. Also, you sit a tad bit lower than you did in the previous-generation Civic Type R.
Aerodynamic design
Although the Civic Type R is a hatchback its design and styling are very similar to that of the standard Civic sedan. However, there are certain aerodynamic elements that not only look great but also help in improving the car’s performance.
For example, we have air intakes on either side of the front bumper which channels air around the outside of the front wheels and into another set of vents located behind the front wheels.
What does it cost?
Ans. Honda Civic Type R price is RM 330,002 which is much, much higher than the price of the top-end model of the standard Civic sedan (RM 128,631) but considering the type of equipment you get, it is pretty okay-ish, don’t you think?
These were the 5 things that we like about the Honda Civic Type R. If you have to tell only one good thing about this car, what would it be?
