KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motors has recently made its debut in Malaysia with the Ora Good Cat electric SUV, to be followed by a bunch of other models such as the Ora Black Cat and Poer P12. Well, the Chinese automaker is currently making the headlines for the outstanding safety performance of its new rugged SUV, the 300 HEV, which it retails under the Tank brand.

Based on the brand’s LEMON platform, the Tank 300 comes equipped with seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, and front-centre) and several advanced safety features such as Autonomous emergency braking, Lane departure warning, Forward collision warning, Traffic sign recognition, Lane-keep assist, and Rear cross-traffic alert with braking.
The SUV is designed to conquer all kinds of terrains with a generous ground clearance of 224 mm, 4WD technology, 33° approach angle, and 34° departure angle.
Under the bonnet of this Chinese SUV lies a petrol-electric hybrid system comprising a 244 PS/380 Nm 2.0-litre ICE and an electric motor adding 106 PS and 268 Nm. Together, the system generates a maximum power of 304 PS and a peak torque of 640 Nm, which is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
