In Malaysia, GWM will launch the Cannon pickup in two trim options - P12 and P11. While the former is more passenger-focused, the latter is a commercial workhorse.

While the two Canon variants differ from one another in terms of overall dimensions, the two feature identical cargo beds that measure 1,520mm x 1,520mm x 540mm (LXWXH).
Exterior
It is easy to differentiate the P12 and P11 trims from one another, thanks to their front end. While the former features a chrome grill with horizontal slats along with model-specific headlights; the latter gets a more subdued grille with a diamond-patterned mesh.
Also, P12 gets C-shaped DRLs which is a miss on the P11. The same is true for the taillights as they are much simpler on the P11 compared to the P12.
Other inclusions -
P12: 18-inch alloy wheels (with 265/60 profile tyres), automatic LED headlamps with a follow-me-home function, LED tail lights, powered side mirrors, an integrated tailgate step,
P11: 17-inch alloys (with 245/70 profile tyres).
Interior
The Canon P12 and P11 cabins are a bit different as well. For instance, the former gets vertically oriented air vents, not the case with the P11. Also, P12 features a center console wrapped in much nicer and shiner materials.
Other inclusion
P12: Electric power steering, leather upholstery, power front seats, paddle shifters, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a nine-inch touchscreen head unit (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support), automatic air-conditioning (with rear vents) as well as keyless entry and engine start.
P11: Hydraulic system, sunroof
Powertrain
Both the GWM Cannon variants are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine generating a maximum power of 163 hp along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The drive is sent to the wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.
Safety
- Six airbags
- A 360-degree camera
- An electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold)
- Traffic sign recognition
- Level 2 semi-autonomous (adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centering and autonomous emergency braking).
While the P12 enjoys all the above-mentioned safety features, the P11 misses out on many including the Level2 ADAS.
Note, we still don't have complete specifications on the upcoming local-spec GWM Cannon. So, stay tuned with Zigwheels to get the latest details on the Chinese pickup, when they are out.
