Grab Malaysia partners with BYD, Yinson & P-Up to boost EV adoption

KUALA LUMPUR: With growing concerns over carbon emissions, electric vehicles are becoming essential for cleaner transportation. However, there are still many concerns that are stopping buyers from switching from ICE-powered vehicles to pure EVs.

Grab Malaysia - Driving EV adoption among ride-hailing drivers
With an aim to speed up the EV transition in the transportation sector, Grab Malaysia will provide access to EVs at competitive rates, making them more affordable for ride-hailing drivers and fleet partners. It will also support the development of charging infrastructure, removing concerns about charging solutions.
BYD Sime Motors - Supplying electric vehicles
BYD will also contribute to making EVs more accessible and appealing to service providers and fleet operators by offering them at exclusive pricing. The company has also committed to providing specialized training sessions to equip driver-partners with the knowledge and tools to transition seamlessly to EVs.

Yinson GreenTech – Providing EV leasing and charging solutions
Yinson GreenTech is the EV leasing partner of Grab Malaysia. Its key contributions will be -
- Provide comprehensive leasing packages of EVs to Grab drivers and a full suite of electrification solutions, starting with the delivery of 10 units of BYD M6.
- Offer competitive leasing rates, preferential charging rates, and vehicle maintenance for Grab EVs.
- Provide fleet management tools, share insights on EV performance, and explore the installation of EV charging stations at key locations.
Power-Up Tech - Strengthening charging infrastructure with mobile solutions
Power-Up Tech will address one of the biggest concerns for EV users i.e., charging accessibility, by ensuring reliable charging infrastructure through mobile charging facilities.
“Through this collaboration, we are not only supporting Malaysia’s sustainability agenda but also empowering our driver-partners with access to greener alternatives. By working with key industry players, we aim to accelerate EV adoption and drive long-term benefits for our communities and the environment,” said Grab Malaysia's director of country operations and mobility Rashid Shukor.
“Our proven track record in electrifying the logistics sector has paved the way for us to now embark on the e-hailing market. We are committed to helping businesses achieve greater efficiency and cost optimisation through electrification.
