Get ready for Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid; scheduled for 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the most popular models in Mitsubishi’s lineup is the Xpander MPV. Over the years, the 7-seater MPV has made a name for itself in several ASEAN markets like Thailand, Indonesia, and obviously Malaysia too. And now, the Japanese automaker plans to take the Xpander name further with a hybrid variant.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Xpander hybrid model was recently teased by the automaker and is scheduled for a launch next year. Sadly, no other detail has been shared by the automaker and all we could do is collect hints from the brand’s recent financial results presentation slides.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Xpander hybrid seems to feature an identical exterior design language as the ongoing petrol model. While the grille design might get tweaked a little, details like the LED headlights are expected to remain the same. One or more ‘HEV’ or ‘Hybrid’ emblems are also expected on the car’s exterior profile.

On the inside, the Xpander hybrid model will feature the same design elements as the petrol model. However, being a hybrid model, an energy-flow indicator display is on the cards.

The Xpander HEV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre MIVEC 4-cylinder engine along with an electric motor. Exact details about the upcoming model are scarce, therefore few changes should not come as a surprise. Overall, the car should offer better fuel economy and reduced emissions.

Like all the other Mitsubishi models, the upcoming Xpander HEV is expected to arrive in Indonesia and the Thai market first, followed by Malaysia.

Upcoming Mitsubishi models in FY 2023 include the Colt, ASX, Delica Mini, Triton, and a compact SUV. As for 2025, the automaker plans to launch a PPV and a 3-row petrol-powered SUV.
