Fresh details on the upcoming 2022 BMW M2
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW is set to debut the all-new 2022 M2 in October this year. The upcoming car has already created a lot of buzz in the market, and fueling it, even more, is the German automaker’s invite to several international media outlets to sample the pre-production prototype unit.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How is the new M2 model different from regular 2 Series coupe?
Differentiating from the regular 2 Series Coupe are the M-badged styling bits, including - M-specific steering wheel, M buttons, and M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display iDrive 8 infotainment system.Courtesy of such events, we now have new information on the 2022 BMW M2, which will keep us going until the official debut.
Here’s what we know about the upcoming BMW M2 -
Engine: Powering the 2022 BMW M2 is a 3.0-litre straight-six twin-turbocharged engine that does duty on the M3 and M4.
The official performance figures are yet to be disclosed; however, the media at the official test drive event reports the company officials confirming detuning the engine to churn around 450 hp or M2 CS-like performance levels.
Transmission: The drive will be sent to the rear wheels either via a 6-speed manual (as standard) or an 8-speed automatic gearbox (at no extra cost). The power will be further distributed by an active M locking differential.
Braking & handling: The all-new M2 will come equipped with adaptive dampers that will ensure superb handling and maintain the car’s ‘playful’ characteristics. The brakes are said to be inherited directly from the M3 and M4, so an immediate stop is assured.
Weight & body: Compared to the standard 2 Series Coupe, the 2022 M2 showcases significantly wider and sporty bodywork. It cuts a lot of weight thanks to using a carbon-fibre roof and bucket seats.
M-specific styling: Differentiating from the regular 2 Series Coupe are the M-badged styling bits, including - M-specific steering wheel, M buttons, and M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display iDrive 8 infotainment system.
This is all the information we have now, and we expect BMW to spill more beans as the car’s debut is still a few months to go.
