Five-star safety rating for Chery Omoda 5
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian-bound Chery Omoda 5 has been awarded a five-star safety rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme (EURO NCAP).

- The Chinese compact crossover was awarded a 5-star safety rating
- In adult occupant protection, the car scored 87%
- The child occupant protection score read 87%
- In vulnerable road user’s production, it got a 68% score
- In terms of safety assist systems, the car was aware 88% score
- In most of the crash tests, the car performed competently in occupant protection
- The car secured the best results in child occupant crash tests, 23.7 out of 24
- The car record poor results in pedestrian protection leading to lower vulnerable road users' score
- The car was noted to come with stiff windscreen pillars and a windscreen base, however, its bumper offered good protection to pedestrians' legs
- The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system responded well to cyclists and pedestrians
- The car comes with a lane support system which during the test gently brought the car back into the lane and also intervene in certain critical situations
- The car gained extra safety points thanks to features like the camera & digital mapping-based speed limit warning and in-car driver fatigue system
Chery Omoda 5 in Malaysia
The Omoda 5 was recently previewed in the country along with its Tiggo Pro range, all of which is part of the automaker’s ‘Phase One' product plan. The Malaysia-spec model will be offered in two engine options including, a 1.5L inline-four turbo and a 1.6-liter mill.
