Ferrari California T Recalled Due to Fuel Leak Issue

Kuala Lumpur: In the past few months, vehicle recalls have become a quotidian task for a wide number of automakers across the globe due to various reasons like technical failures or airbags issue. The latest to join the queue is Italian sports car giant, Ferrari. The widely loved sports car Ferrari California T is recalled by the carmaker due to some technical issues related to fuel line. Ferrari has recalled units of the 2016 California T convertibles because of the risk of fuel leaks. A total of 185 vehicles are affected which were produced in the period of September 8 to November 11. The above mentioned 2016 Ferrari California T price set by the company is currently starting at US$ 167,000, although the Italian carmaker has issued a stop sale notice to the dealers until the issue is fixed.

According to a US Department of Transportation (DOT) notice these affected vehicles have a low-pressure fuel line which is not connected properly to the fuel-pump feed pipe. This bad connection increases the risk of a fuel leak which may result in fire. This step was taken by Ferrari when the US National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an advisory on its website. As an answer to this issue, Ferrari blamed a supplier for providing a defective part.

The automaker has already notified all the owners of these 185 units and the recall began on December 14. As a result, the local dealers would replace the low-pressure fuel assembly free of cost. Earlier in July this year, the automaker issued a recall of around 2600 cars globally due to improper bag assembly of the infamous scandal of Takata airbags. Then again in September 11 Malaysian vehicles were affected due to the airbag issue. That time the affected models were 458 Italia, 458 Spyder, 458 Speciale, the FF, F12 Berlinetta and California T as well.

Over the time, Ferrari has experienced a lot of recalls which has no doubt hampered the company's image on the global front. But it is not standing alone on the same ground, as General Motors, BMW and Honda has a recall history as well.
