Say hello to Ferrari 812 Competizione and Competizione Aperta
KUALA LUMPUR: Ferrari has already unveiled the images of its special and faster 812 Superfast special edition model last month, without disclosing its name, however, some reports suggested the ‘Competizione’ moniker. Well, that is correct, the hardcore variant of the 812 Superfast is called 812 Competizione and its Targa or open-top sibling goes with the name ‘Competizione A’; which is based on 812 GTS. The suffix A stands for Aperta, which means ‘open’ in Italian.
Under the hood, the special edition 812 Competizione models are fitted with a re-tuned version of the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine that generates a maximum output of 818 hp i.e. 29 hp more than the Superfast, while revving up to an astonishing 9,500 rpm. The peak torque is slightly reduced from 717 Nm to 695 Nm.
Ferrari mentioned that the extensive weight-saving techniques used in the making of the 812 Competizione, resulted in a dry weight of 1,487 kg (reduced by 38 kg). The weight reduction and power boost together helped the sports car in achieving exhilarating performance. It can run from naught to 100 kmph in just 2.85 seconds, and from zero to 200 kmph in 7.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 340 kmph.
The stated specs belong to 812 Competizione; the automaker has not yet spoken about the Competizione A performance, which is, however, likely to be lower than coupe because of the added weight of the targa roof.
Besides adding lighter components, Ferrari also made some other revisions to the mechanical setup, which includes a rebalanced crankshaft, and a new exhaust system. The new exhaust uses rectangular pipes placed at either side of the bumper to make space for the full-width rear diffuser. The latter works in combination with a new full-width rear spoiler for a ‘perfect aerodynamic synergy.’
Other highlights adding to the faster performance are:
- Front spoiler with a passive mobile aero system that opens at speeds over 250 kmph
- Vortex generators on the rear
- Side Slip Control v. 7.0
- Independent rear-wheel steering system
- Michelin Cup 2 R tyres wrapped on all-carbon-fiber wheels
Ferrari will make both supercars in limited numbers with the Competizione coupe getting a limited run of 999 units, while the Competizione A targa production will see 599 units only. Well, all the units are already sold out completely. Price for the 812 Competizione starts at 499,000 euros (RM 2,471,988), whereas the Aperta version costs 578,000 euros (RM 2,863,345).
