Chinese automaker Maxus teased a new pick-up, likely to launch this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Maxus is a sub-brand of the Chinese auto giant SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), which is currently in the process of creating electrified vehicles. The company has recently announced a new pick-up concept, and it is speculated to be an EV or PHEV as per the market analysts.

Maxus released the official teaser of the concept on Weibo, a famous social media platform in China. The caption reads as, “Simple and futuristic, what will it be? See you in the second half (of 2020).” The concept is expected to be called “MAXUS V.” There is very little information available about the new pick-up right now; however, the designing cues can be observed in the teaser image.

Maxus new pickup

That official picture shows the radical design of the upcoming pick-up truck. It has a large front grille, a high set of headlamps, and flared fenders. The hood of the pick-up features a clamshell pattern while doors and rear pillar portray angular design.

The new pick-up may adopt the powertrain from its sibling, Maxus Euniq 6, which produces 174 PS of maximum power, 310 Nm of peak torque, and a range of 317 miles. However, this is just speculation at this point.

Maxus T60 front

Maxus has been manufacturing trucks and SUVs for SAIC for a while now. It already has the T60 pick-up in its lineup, so it is also rumored that the upcoming pick-up would replace the existing one. In Malaysia, Maxus brought the T60 pick-up last year. Under its hood, it carries a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine generating 148 PS of power. It is available in two variants - the base manual and high-spec automatic, with a starting price of RM 105,888.88.

The new Maxus V model is expected to launch in the second half of the year. We hope that it would be arriving in Malaysia also, maybe sometime in the next year.
