Omoda is positioned as a distinct brand within Chery's lineup, designed to appeal to a younger, more style-conscious demographicUncovered by Paultan.org, the vehicle has been dubbed the Omoda 7 and is expected to slot into the lineup between the Omoda 5 and the soon-to-arrive Omoda 9 — the latter a rebranded version of the Exeed Yaoguang, which is sold outside China as the Exeed RX. The Omoda 7 is poised to serve as Omoda's take on the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, featuring distinct styling and potentially more premium features.
The new model is not anticipated to be among the first to utilise Chery's forthcoming T2X platform, which will also be unveiled at the Beijing event. However, early images suggest the Omoda 7 will share more design elements with the Omoda 9 rather than with the Omoda 5, which is known in some markets as the C5.
From what we can see, the design similarities with the Omoda 9 include sweeping headlights and a bumper design, alongside flush door handles and a sloping roofline. The rear of the Omoda 7 also showcases a smaller third window and a distinctive upwards kink between the C and D-pillars, drawing design cues from established vehicles such as the Lexus RX.
Inside, although details remain scarce, it's reported that the Omoda 7 will be powered by a 1.6 T-GDI engine producing 145kW/290Nm, identical to the engines found in the soon to launch in Malaysia, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and JAECOO J7. There is also speculation that a plug-in hybrid version may follow. With its official unveiling imminent on April 28, more details or additional teasers from Omoda are expected soon.
Under the Chery umbrella, the lineup currently boasts eight SUV models, including offerings from its sub-brands JAECOO and Exeed, which cater to the more premium market segment. With the forthcoming introduction of the Omoda 7 and 9, this number will expand to ten, providing consumers with a wide array of choices.
In recent years, Chery has been actively broadening its SUV offerings, not only under its flagship brand but also through its luxury arm, Exeed. This expansion is characterized by a focus on integrating advanced technology and superior materials to meet the diverse needs of a global audience. The range covers various market segments, from compact urban explorers to more spacious and luxurious family-oriented SUVs, ensuring there's a Chery vehicle to suit every preference and lifestyle.
Additionally, Chery has expanded its portfolio to include a couple of electric vehicle (EV) options. The Omoda E5, already available in Malaysia, is priced at RM146,800. Meanwhile, the Chery eQ7, launched in the Philippines as a mid-size SUV, comes with a price tag of approximately Php 2 million (RM 168,301). These offerings highlight Chery's commitment to providing sustainable mobility solutions across diverse markets.
