Chery Omoda 5 debuts in Indonesia; When will it come to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2023 is currently underway in Indonesia with a slew of the latest models on display. One such model is the Chery Omoda 5; the first global product from Chery Automobile, which is also earmarked to launch in Malaysia this year.

Chery has put two units of the Omoda 5 on display that are right-hand drives. It also unveiled the car’s specifications along with the preliminary prices and is now accepting the pre-bookings for the SUV.

 

The Omoda 5 is offered in two variants in Indonesia - Z and RZ, priced at IDR 328 million (RM 96k) and IDR 398 million (RM 116k), respectively. Both variants will come powered by the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power of 147 PS and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT automatic with 9 virtual gears.

The SUV boasts a sporty and futuristic design with the theme "Cross F Future'' and cutting-edge technologies. The exterior looks striking with trapezoidal split LED headlights, T-shaped LED daytime running lights, a sporty rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, and X–Through dynamic LED tail lights.

The cabin features an aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic visual appearance with lots of advanced features like dual 10.25-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, multi-colored LED ambient lights, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging pad, powered driver seats, powered sunroof, Sony sound system with 8 speakers, and more.

Providing car owners with a pampered feel on every trip are systems like an electronic power steering system, electronic parking brake with auto hold, lane keeping system, traffic signal recognition system, adaptive cruise system, intelligent high beam, and Integrated Cruise Assist.

Five stunning colour options on offer are - Gray Morganite, Black Platinum, Blue Turquoise, and White Howlite, and a two-tone colour combination. 

When will the Omoda 5 come to Malaysia?

As per the Chinese automaker’s announcement made in December, Malaysia will be receiving the SUV in mid-2023 as the first right-hand-drive market, ahead of Australia and South Africa. That means we could get our hands on the SUV even before Indonesia.
