KUALA LUMPUR: With an aim to promote environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the Malaysian automotive sector, Chery Auto Malaysia has recently signed an MoU with the Technology Depository Agency (TDA).

The MoU was signed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, recently held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Selangor (MAEPS) in Serdang.TDA is a government agency that operates under the Ministry of Finance and plays a key role in fostering the country’s economic and technological advancement. Its Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) helps Malaysian industries connect with top-notch technology partners worldwide. It gives them access to important knowledge and skills and enhances their global competitiveness.
Under the collaboration, the two parties will focus on developing and implementing innovative ESG initiatives for the nation’s welfare. Some of these are -
- Reducing waste
- Making production processes cleaner
- Figuring out how to manage batteries responsibly in the electric vehicle industry.
- Improve working conditions within the automotive supply chain
- Foster diversity and inclusion within the workforce
- Contribute to local communities through social responsibility programmes
“This MoU signifies our dedication to exploring, extending, and enhancing collaborative efforts, which will not only strengthen our interactions but also drive meaningful impacts among stakeholders, professionals, and staff,” said President of Chery Auto Malaysia Leo Chen.

The agreement was signed at the recently held Malaysia Autoshow 2024, where Chery also presented a range of vehicles, including the Omoda 5, E5, Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro e+, and Tiggo 7 Pro. While the first three vehicles are already on local roads, the Tiggo 7 Pro is the next Chery SUV to launch in Malaysia. The automaker started accepting bookings for the SUV two months back.
The other unfamiliar model at Chery’s booth was the Tiggo 8 Pro e+. It is a plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 8 Pro that was previewed in a left-hand drive iteration, suggesting that its local launch may not be imminent.
