In an extraordinary gesture, Chery Malaysia has decided to support our local athletes as they gear up for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris next month. Understanding the relentless dedication and sacrifices our athletes make, Chery Malaysia is stepping up with an electrifying surprise to fuel their drive to victory.

Chery Malaysia has announced that any Malaysian athlete who secures a spot on the podium will be gifted one of their luxurious SUVs.

For the gold medalists, the prize is the majestic Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, an SUV that combines power and elegance in perfect harmony. Silver medalists will be electrified by the Chery Omoda E5, a sleek, cutting-edge vehicle that promises an exhilarating driving experience. And for those who clinch the bronze, the highly anticipated Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, a true blend of sophistication and performance, awaits them.

"We know they have put in the hard work and long hours of training for the games. We have high hopes that this year, Malaysia will achieve the coveted gold medal that the nation has been eyeing." said Leo Chen President of Chery Auto Malaysia.

This dazzling initiative was unveiled by Chen at a grand event attended by notable figures such as Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Football League and Coordinator of the Road to Gold Programme, Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd, and Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International.

“We are indeed very happy with the pledge by Chery Malaysia to reward Malaysia athletes who will do well in the upcoming Olympics in Paris. We hope this will spur the athletes to give their best and make the country proud," said National Sports Council Director-General, Abdul Rashid Yaakub.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro will be launched in a couple of days, with many members of the public taking a particular interest in the Proton X70 competitor. For those of you who are still unsure what the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is, here's a quick run down.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro: Key Highlights

• Pricing: Estimated at under RM130,000, with the final price to be revealed at launch. Only one variant will be available.
• Design and Build: Built on the robust T1X Comfort chassis shared with the Tiggo 8 Pro, offering generous interior space and a large boot capacity.
• Exterior: Features an imposing chrome-framed hexagonal front grille and sleek LED lighting for a bold, aggressive look.
• Engine: Powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo TGDi engine with 197 hp and 290Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for exhilarating performance.
• Suspension: Independent multi-link suspension at all four corners enhances driving feel and comfort.
• Interior: Luxurious and tech-savvy, with a 24.6" dual-screen setup for the instrument panel and infotainment system, seamless smartphone connectivity, and a Sony premium audio system. Additional features include ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof.
• Connectivity: In-car wireless 50W charger with an active cooling system ensures efficient phone charging.
• Safety: Secured a 5-star ANCAP rating with comprehensive safety features, including 7 airbags and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with 16 features such as Front Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro on the other hand launched in July 2023, marked Chery Malaysia's comeback to the Malaysian market . The seven-seater SUV is available in a single Luxury variant priced at RM 159,800. It boasts a robust 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 256 hp and 390 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DCT gearbox. Key features include a "galaxy"-inspired front grille, dual 24.6-inch screens, a Sony sound system, and extensive safety features like nine airbags and a 540-degree camera. The Tiggo 8 Pro's dimensions are 4,722 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,705 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,710 mm, putting it around the size of the Proton X90 and Mazda CX-8.

Meanwhile, the Chery Omoda E5 EV, priced at RM 146,800, is designed for Malaysia's growing electric vehicle market. Powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 201 PS and 340 Nm of torque, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. It features a 61 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery with a 430 km range. The Omoda E5 supports AC charging at 9.9 kW and DC fast charging up to 80 kW, recharging from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. Its advanced features include a 24.6-inch curved screen, a Premium Sony Sound System, and a comprehensive suite of ADAS. The EV also offers a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000km battery warranty, with a one-to-one battery exchange if the state of health drops below 70% during the warranty period.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro, and Omoda E5 are all assembled at Chery's local assembly facility in collaboration with Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd (Inokom) in Kedah. While the initial batch of the Omoda E5 was fully imported, CKD models are now being locally assembled and will soon be available.

Another exciting addition to Chery's lineup is on the horizon: the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro, slated for launch at the end of the year. This petite SUV measures approximately 4.2 meters in length, 1.76 meters in width, and 1.57 meters in height, making it a perfect subcompact competitor to the likes of the Perodua Ativa, Honda WR-V, and Mazda CX-3.

The Tiggo 2 Pro typically features a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, delivering around 105 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. It is available with either a manual or automatic transmission. Given the market preference, it is likely that the Malaysian variant will come with an automatic transmission. For comparison, its power output is similar to the Perodua Ativa, although the Honda WR-V offers slightly more power.
